Forest Grove, OR – The Pacific Boxers bullpen held Lewis & Clark scoreless the final seven frames as they defeated the Pioneers 9-4 on Thursday evening.
The Lewis & Clark Pioneers jumped out to an early lead through three innings against the Pacific Boxers on Thursday afternoon. In the top of the first, the Pioneers took a 1-0 lead after Jack Savant scored on a bases loaded walk by Jakob Ghammachi. Lewis & Clark added on in the second courtesy of a three-run homer by Brennen Davis, his fifth in five games.
The Boxers stormed back with 2 runs in the bottom of the 3rd, one on an error and the other on an RBI single by left fielder Davis Koester. The floodgates opened in the bottom of the 4th when Pacific plated 3 more runs, all unearned due to a costly Pios error. The big blow was a 2-out RBI double smacked into the right field corner by designated hitter Matt Gibbs.
The Boxers kept their foot on the gas in the 7th, adding 3 more, highlighted by a 2-run blast over the right field wall by Ty Yukumoto.
On the mound, Pacific starter Hunter Edwards lasted just 1.2 innings before giving way to reliever Governor Aufranc, who held the Pioneers scoreless over the next 3.1 frames. William Merriott, Ayden Ruminski and Joey Harmon closed out the final 4 innings without allowing a run.
Lewis & Clark starter Brett Pierson took the loss, allowing 6 runs (1 earned) over 4 innings pitched, striking out 7. Ryan Harvey pitched the next three innings, allowing 3 runs. Felix Gibeault pitched the final frame, striking out the side.
The Boxers collected 10 hits in the game, led by a 2-hit performance from Matthews, Gibbs, and Koester.
Lewis & Clark was led offensively by Brennen Davis, who went 2-5 with a homer and 3 RBIs.
The two teams play again tomorrow, this time at Jerry Gatto Field in Portland, Oregon.
