First game: Bushnell 4, British Columbia 2. The Beacons got excellent pitching from Ethan Sachs, Trevor Hammond, and Colby Knutzen to hold the Thunderbirds to six hits. Sachs started, went five innings, allowed two runs (only one of them earned), struck out seven. The only earned run was a home run by Russell Young in the first inning. The second Thunderbird run came from an RBI single by Kellen Bourne in the second inning. The Beacons answered with an RBI single by Ethan Stacy in the third inning, and an RBI double by Reece Carganilla in the fifth inning.

Thunderbird starter Sean Heppner was as effective as Sachs. He went six innings, allowed two runs on four hits, struck out six. The game was tied 2-2 when Sachs and Heppner left the game. The Thunderbirds didn’t get another hit the rest of the way. Hammond pitched three innings, struck out two, got the win. Knutzen pitched the ninth inning.

James Brock pitched the seventh and eighth innings for the Thunderbirds. He gave up five hits, but the one that mattered was a pinch-hit two-run home run by Albert Jennings in the bottom of the eighth with two out. Cade Crist went 2-for-2 with two runs scored for the Beacons. Young went 2-for-4.

Second game: British Columbia 7, Bushnell 3. The Thunderbirds got very good pitching from Ryan Heppner and Evan Hoegler, and timely hitting – seven runs on only six hits – to get a split of the double-header. Heppner pitched six innings, allowed only one earned run on four hits, struck out seven, got the win. Hoegler pitched the remaining three innings, allowed only one run on one hit, struck out four. The Thunderbirds got all the runs they needed in the top of the first; Trent Lenihan hit an RBI single, Mitchell Middlemiss reached on an error for an RBI, Jonny McGill hit an RBI double, and Aidan Rose hit a sacrifice fly for the winning run. The Thunderbirds did the rest of their scoring in the fourth inning; McGill scored when Kenny Scott reached on an error, and Jackson Boomer hit a two-run home run. McGill was the only Thunderbird with multiple hits. Albert Jennings went 2-for-3 for the Beacons, and Jordan Wilson hit a home run. Starter Max Chapman got the loss for the Beacons; he was on the mound for seven runs and all six of the Thunderbirds’ hits, but only two of the runs were earned.
