Cascade Collegiate Conference recap for March 29

Lewis-Clark State defeated Oregon Tech, and Bushnell and College of Idaho split.

At Klamath Falls, OR. Lewis-Clark State 10, Oregon 6. The Hustlin’ Owls led 6-2 after five innings, led by a solo home run by Tyler Horner and a two-RBI double by Julien Jones. Owls starter Patrick Arman had the bases empty with two out in the top of the sixth, but was lit up for five consecutive hits, a double by Dominic Signorelli, an RBI single by Brandon Cabrera, a single by Pu’ukani De Sa, an RBI single by Jack Sheward, and a two-RBI double by Leo Rivera. Arman was relieved by Brian McClellan, who was greeted with a single, scoring Rivera. That gave the Warriors their seventh run, and Arman the loss. Warrior reliever Cameron Smith held the Owls scoreless for the final four innings, allowed two hits, struck out five. The Warriors added an insurance runs with an RBI single by Nick Seamons in the eighth, and a two-run home run by Cabrera in the ninth.

Jatzen Lucas, who recorded two outs in the fifth inning, got the win, and Smith got a long save. Signorelli finished 3-for-5 with three RBI. De Sa finished 3-for-5 with a home run. Jones finished 3-for-4. recap

At Springfield, OR. First game: Bushnell 9, College of Idaho 8. The Beacons trailed 7-6 going into the bottom of the eighth, but Kyle Casperson, Liam Kerr, and Albert Jennings hit consecutive solo home runs in the bottom of the eighth to win it for the Beacons. The Coyotes got one of those runs back with a home run by Jordan Kelly, but the Beacons brought in Colby Knutzen to get the final two outs, and he got it done with a strikeout and a ground out.

Both starting pitchers had not-very-good days. Nick Eliason went five innings for the Coyotes, gave up six runs on only four hits. Ben Gaff went the rest of the way, gave up the three home runs, got the loss. Kai Keamo went 5 2/3 innings for the Beacons, gave up seven runs (five earned) on nine hits, struck out five. However, Daniel Furman, who pitched 2 2/3 innings, allowed one run on two hits, struck out five, got the win.

Casperson also hit a double and had two RBI, and Reece Carganilla hit a home run earlier in the game for the Beacons. Kelly finished 3-for-5 with three RBI.

Second game: College of Idaho 13, Bushnell 1. Halted by the mercy rule after seven innings. The Coyotes got home runs by Jordan Kelly, Darren Smith, Jace Mahlke, and Ben Gaff. They put it away with four runs in the fifth inning, with Gaff’s home run and a three-RBI double by Jack Ingraham. Nate Vidlak went the seven-inning distance, allowed a run on four hits, struck out eight. The run wasn’t scored until the sixth inning. Smith finished 3-for-6 with six RBI. Adam Sabatino, who pitched the first inning, got the loss.
