Cascade Collegiate Conference recap for April 14

Lewis-Clark State completed the four-game sweep of #2-ranked LSU-Shreveport, British Columbia got a come-from-behind extra-innings win over College of Idaho, and Oregon Tech swept Eastern Oregon.

At Lewiston, ID. Completion of Friday’s suspended game: Lewis-Clark State 1, LSU-Shreveport 0. Carter Booth hit a sacrifice fly scoring courtesy runner Alex Sol in the bottom of the seventh for the only run of the game. Drake George and Jake Green combined for the shutout of the #2-ranked Pilots. George pitched seven innings, allowed five hits, struck out eight. He was still the pitcher of record when the Warriors scored the run, so he got the win. Green took over on Sunday, allowed one hit, struck out two. The Pilot’s starter, Isaac Rohde, went six innings, allowed five hits, struck out six. Chase Guitreau pitched the seventh and eighth innings, allowed three hits, struck out two, got the loss. Neither team had an extra-base hit. Dominic Signorelli and Magnum Hofstetter each had two hits for the Warriors. A.J. Fritz had two hits for the Pilots.

Lewis-Clark State 14, LSU-Shreveport 8. The Pilots led this one 7-6 after five innings, but the Warriors took over with five runs in the bottom of the sixth. They tied the game with a home run by Brandon Cabrera, had two runs walked in, and got a two-RBI single by Jack Sheward. They added an RBI single by Carter Booth in the seventh inning, and a two-run home run by Charlie Updegrave in the eighth inning. The Pilots used eight pitchers, and the Warriors used seven. Zachary Ediger got the win, and Kenneth Schechter got his second loss in two days. Booth finished 2-for-3 with four RBI, walked three times. Pu’ukani De Sa finished 4-for-5 with one RBI. The Warriors swept the four-game series.

At Caldwell, ID. British Columbia 10, College of Idaho 9 (10 innings). The Thunderbirds out-hit the Coyotes 21-11, but they had to score two runs in the top of the ninth inning, on a two-RBI single by Russell Young with two out, to send it into extra innings. The top of the tenth started with the Coyotes bringing in Nick Eliason, who started Friday, to pitch. After he gave up hits by Aaron Marsh and Trent Lenihan, the Coyotes moved Ben Gaff from third base to the mound. He was greeted with an RBI double by Jonny McGill. With Mitchell Middlemiss at the plate, Lenihan scored on a wild pitch, and McGill moved to third. Middlemiss then hit a sacrifice fly to score McGill, and give the Thunderbirds a 10-7 lead. The Thunderbirds needed that tenth run. Jack Ingraham opened the bottom of the tenth with a single. Gaff followed with another single, and Dillon Danner drew a walk to load the bases. Darren Smith hit a ground ball to third base, which scored a run, but also caused an out at second base, so the Thunderbirds traded a run for an out. Trevor Watkins hit a single to score another run, and the score was 10-9 with the tying run on third and the winning run on first. Thunderbird pitcher Adam Khan then got a big strikeout for the second out of the inning. Chandler Stocking then flied out to finally end the game.

Middlemiss hit a two-RBI single in the fifth inning to give the Thunderbirds a 4-3 lead. Ingraham tied it with an RBI double in the bottom of the fifth, and the Thunderbirds took the lead again when Aidan Rose came home on a double play in the top of the sixth. The Coyotes took a 7-5 lead when Jordan Kelly hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh.

Khan entered the game in the eighth inning, and didn’t allow a hit until the tenth inning. He recorded two strikeouts, got the win. Eliason got his second loss of the weekend, although it was Gaff that put McGill on base and was charged with the winning run. McGill finished 4-for-6 with a double, an RBI, and two runs scored. The Thunderbirds swept the four-game series.

At La Grande, OR. First game: Oregon Tech 14, Eastern Oregon 9. The Hustlin’ Owls scored seven runs in the top of the third inning, including a two-run home run by Kyle Norton and a three-run home run by Dane Bradshaw. They got the winning run in the fourth inning, on an RBI single by Korrey Siracusa. Ka’ala Tam hit a three-run home run for the Owls in the sixth inning. Danny Burns hit a two-run home run for the Mountaineers in the fourth inning, and Mario Landeros hit a solo home run in the ninth. Owl starter Isaac Hill got the win, pitched six innings, allowed three runs on nine hits, struck out three. Mountaineer starter Cooper Roberts got the loss. Tyler Horner finished 3-for-4 with a double and three runs scored for the Owls. Landeros finished 3-for-5 with three RBI.

Second game: Oregon Tech 15, Eastern Oregon 5. The Mountaineers had a 4-0 lead after two innings, but the Hustlin’ Owls tied it 4-4 with a two-RBI double by Ty Blakely in the fourth inning. They got the winning run with an RBI double by Tyler Horner in the sixth inning, then put it away with a three-run home run by Patrick Barry in the seventh inning. The Owls used four pitchers. Cody Dubray started, pitched six innings, allowed all five Mountaineer runs on seven hits, struck out nine. Riley Cronin pitched two innings, didn’t allow a hit, struck out two. Shane Sinclair was shelled with seven runs, got the loss.

Horner finished 4-for-6 with a double and an RBI. Joey Freitas was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI for the Mountaineers. recap

The Owls won the series three games to one.
