Cascade Collegiate Conference recap for April 27

Lewis-Clark State swept two one-run games vs. Bushnell, clinched the conference pennant. Oregon Tech swept Corban. College of Idaho and Eastern Oregon split.

At Lewiston, ID. First game: Lewis-Clark State 9, Bushnell 8 (10 innings). The Beacons scored five runs in the top of the sixth to get back in the game. They trailed 8-6 going into the ninth inning, but Albert Jennings hit a two-run home run to send it into extra innings. The Warriors went three-up three-down in the bottom of the ninth. Max Richards got a pinch-hit single with two out in the top of the tenth. The Beacons re-entered Jacob Stoner to replace him on the base path, and he was picked off by Landon Webb, who took the mound for the Warriors at the beginning of the inning. Bulla Ephan opened the bottom of the tenth with a single. He was replaced by courtesy runner Ike George. Two walks moved him to third base. Beacon pitcher Trevor Hammond struck out Nick Seamons, but the next batter, Dominic Signorelli, reached on a fielding error, and George scored the winning run.

Carter Booth, Signorelli, and Magnum Hofstetter hit home runs for the Warriors; Booth finished 2-for-5. Isaiah Hart finished 3-for-5 with a double for the Beacons.

Second game: Lewis-Clark State 5, Bushnell 4. Brandon Cabrera hit two two-run home runs to give the Warriors a 4-1 lead going into the eighth inning. The Beacons made it 4-2 in the top of the eighth with a solo home run by Cade Crist, and Jake Gish hit an RBI double in the bottom of the eighth for what turned out to be the winning run. The Beacons weren’t finished, however. Albert Jennings hit a two-run home run with two out in the top of the ninth to get the Beacons to within one run. Isaiah Hart then fouled out to end the game.

Shane Spencer pitched eight innings for the Warriors, allowed one earned run on three hits, struck out 10, didn’t walk a batter, threw 107 pitches.Jake Green pitched the ninth inning, and the only hit he gave up was the Jennings home run; Green got a save. Max Chapman and Blake Stavros combined to limit the Warriors to six hits; Chapman allowed four of them, including the two Cabrera home runs. He got the loss. The Warriors have clinched the conference pennant, and will host the conference tournament May 4-6.

At Klamath Falls, OR. First game: Oregon Tech 10, Corban 3. The Hustlin’ Owls trailed 2-1 going into the bottom of the fifth, then scored five runs on only two hits in the bottom of the fifth to win it. The two hits were a two-RBI single by Dane Bradshaw and an RBI single by Matthew Ortiz. Bradshaw hit a sacrifice fly later in the game, and Chase Hedani hit a two-RBI triple. Cody Dubray got the win, pitched six innings, allowed three runs on six hits, struck out seven, walked seven, threw 116 pitches. Drake Aboud went the rest of the way, didn’t allow a hit. Avery Williamson got the loss. Ortiz was the only Owl with two hits. Ryan Clay had two hits and an RBI for the Warriors.

Second game: Oregon Tech 16, Corban 3. Mercy-ruled after seven innings. The Hustlin’ Owls got three runs in the bottom of the first inning, and got all the runs they needed in the third inning, on two runs scored by hit batters, an RBI on a ground out by Ty Blakely, and a run scored on a passed ball. Blakely hit a two-RBI single in the fourth inning. Matthew Ortiz finished 3-for-5, scored three runs. Bronson Chapple got the win, allowed three runs on four hits, struck out two. At Caldwell, ID. First game: College of Idaho 4, Eastern Oregon 2. A game that was close all the way. It was tied 2-2 after five innings. The Coyotes got the winning run in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI double by Matthew Iwamizu, and the insurance run in the eighth inning when Kris Kirkpatrick scored on a wild pitch. Dawson Cummins pitched eight innings for the Coyotes, allowed two runs on six hits, struck out three, threw 100 pitches. Brock Cordes got the loss, pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowed two earned runs on nine hits, struck out nine, threw 115 pitches. Tommy Whiles went 2-for-4 with a home run for the Mountaineers. Chandler Stocking and Jack Ingraham each had two hits for the Coyotes; Ingraham had an RBI.

Second game: Eastern Oregon 7, College of Idaho 4. Another close game. It was tied 3-3 after five innings. The Mountaineers took a 4-3 lead in the top of the sixth with an RBI triple by Youhyeon Choi, then got the winning run with a two-run home run by Joey Freitas in the seventh. They added one more run in the ninth on an RBI double by Chase Nett. Will Seslar got the win; he pitched six innings, allowed four runs on eight hits, struck out five, threw 104 pitches. The Coyotes used six pitchers. The starter, Jacob Lewis, pitched three innings, allowed one earned run on two hits, struck out three, and got the loss, but it was Willy Shirts who gave up the Freitas home run. Danny Burns went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored for the Mountaineers. Jordan Kelly and Dillon Danner each had two hits and two RBI for the Coyotes. recap
