NWAC Baseball Championship – Day Two Recap

Game 5 (loser out) – Spokane 6, Bellevue 5

Bellevue jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 1st inning, scoring on a bases loaded hit-by-pitch and an RBI groundout. They added another run in the 5th on a bases loaded walk to go up 3-0.  Spokane got on the board with an Andrew Charron RBI double in the 4th.  Bellevue would add to their lead after a Brandon McKinley 2-run homer in the 8th to extend Bulldogs’ lead to 5-0. The Sasquatch then scored 3 runs in the 8th on Carson Coffield’s solo home run, a fielder’s choice, and a sacrifice fly to trim the deficit to 5-4. In the 9th, Jaxson Davis delivered an RBI single, and the winning run scored from first on a wild throw home as Spokane completed the comeback 6-5 victory over Bellevue. Evan Hamberger started for Spokane and went 7 innings allowing 4 runs and striking out 5. Tyler Alm earned the win in relief after pitching a scoreless top of the 9th. Micah Hagler went 8 innings, allowed 4 runs and stuck out 3 for Bellevue.

Game 6 (loser out) – Lower Columbia 6, Blue Mountain 2

Lower Columbia jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the 1st inning, scoring all 3 runs on two wild pitches (two runs scored on one) and without recording a hit. Blue Mountain got on the board in the 5th on an RBI single by Joe Clifton to make it 3-1. The Red Devils would tack on 3 more runs in the 6th, pushed across by a bases loaded walk, an RBI single from Carson Hayes, and a fielder’s choice. In the 9th, Evan Gant stole third and scored on a throwing error to account for Blue Mountain’s other run. Lower Columbia starter Owen Luchies was outstanding, allowing just 1 run over 6 innings of work, scattering 3 singles with 0 walks and 5 strikeouts. Zach Reynolds started for the Timberwolves and went 5 innings, allowing 3 runs (all unearned) on 3 hits with 1 walk and 2 strikeouts.

Game 7 – Tacoma 11, Edmonds 0 (7)

Tacoma jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the 1st inning and never looked back. They added two more runs in the 3rd, four in the 4th, and two more runs in the 7th. Jeramiah Crain led the offensive onslaught, blasting a home run and driving in 3 runs. Zion Williams (3 hits) and Julius Hooks also had multi-RBI games. Drew Johnson added 3 hits and scored a run. On the mound, starter Isaac Evaniew was masterful, tossing a complete game shutout while allowing just 2 hits and striking out 4 over 7 innings.

Game 8 – Linn-Benton 4, Everett 3

Linn-Benton edged out Everett 4-3 with a walk-off sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 9th inning. The Beaks struck first with a run in the 3rd inning on an RBI single from Spencer Sullivan. Everett responded with single runs in the 1st, 7th, and 8th innings on RBI singles from Carson Burns and Colin Beazizo. However, Linn-Benton battled back with a run in the 7th on a Jordan Hockett RBI single, followed by a go-ahead run in the 8th on a Kolten Lindstrom RBI single. In the bottom of the 9th, Cameron Ordway reached base and came around to score the winning run on Hockett’s sacrifice fly, giving Linn-Benton the dramatic 4-3 walk-off victory. Gabe Brabec started for the Roadrunners and went 7 innings, allowed 2 runs and stuck out 7. Everett starter Ethan Hubbell was fantastic as well going 6.2 innings, allowing 2 runs and striking out 9.
