NWAC Baseball Championship – Day Four Recap

Linn-Benton and Tacoma earn Sunday wins and remain the final two teams standing heading into Championship Monday.

Game 12 – Linn-Benton 8, Spokane 6

Spokane took an early 3-0 lead in the 2nd inning after an RBI double from Dallas Gohl, an RBI single from Reese Vassar, and a Carson Coffield sac fly RBI. They extended their lead to 5-0 in the 3rd with two more runs scored on a Vassar fielder’s choice and a double steal.

Linn-Benton got on the board in the bottom of the 3rd, scoring two runs on an RBI single by Aidan Dougherty and an RBI double from Jordan Hockett to make it 5-2.

Spokane added another run in the 4th on an RBI groundout by Ricco Longo to go up 6-2.

Linn-Benton then had a big 5-run 7th inning to take the lead. Kellen Segel hit a monster n 2-run homer to cut the deficit to 6-4. Then Dougherty, Hockett and Spencer Sullivan hit back-to-back-to-back RBI singles to put Linn-Benton ahead 7-6.

An insurance run in the 8th on a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch made the final score 8-6 in favor of the Roadrunners. Ever Lamm earned the win in relief for Linn-Benton after firing 3.1 scoreless innings, while Easton Corey picked up the save.

Game 13 – Tacoma 6, Lower Columbia 4

Tacoma jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the 1st inning when Drew Johnson scored after Jeramiah Crain reached on a fielders choice. They a run in the 3rd when Johnson scored on a wild pitch. The game broke open for the Titans in the 5th inning. With the bases loaded, Logan Shepherd was hit by a pitch to force in a run. Then Zion Williams delivered a 2-run single to make it 5-0 Tacoma. TCC tacked on an insurance run in the 8th on a sacrifice fly by Chase Cretti to go up 6-0.

Lower Columbia finally got on the board with 2 runs in the 8th on a 2-run double by Cayden Wotipka to cut the deficit to 6-2. In the 9th, RBI singles by Carson Hayes and Langan Naylor brought Lower Columbia within 6-4 and they had the winning run at the plate. But a flyout ended the threat and the game, with Tacoma hanging on for a 6-4 victory.

Austin Crawford was outstanding for TCC, earning the win after six scoreless innings. Caden Gibson picked up the 3-inning save.

Championship Monday:

Linn-Benton (3-1) takes on Tacoma CC (4-0) at noon, streaming on the NWAC Network. Tacoma needs one win to take home the title while LBCC will need to win twice.
