Baseball Record Performances: PNW Players Honored

Baseball record performances lit up the Pacific Northwest collegiate scene this week. Players across multiple conferences delivered standout achievements. The Player and Pitcher of the Week honors were announced by each respective conference.

Big 10

Hitter of the Week

Oregon junior Dominic Hellman earned Big Ten Player of the Week honors. He led the No. 11 Ducks to a 4-0 week with an impressive batting performance. Hellman went 9-for-18, with a 1.639 OPS and 1.056 slugging percentage. His weekend highlights included two grand slams. He helped Oregon secure a school-record 35-run victory against Columbia. Hellman’s powerful hitting drove in 13 runs during the series.

West Coast Conference (WCC)

Pitcher of the Week

Pilots senior Ryan Rembisz claimed WCC Baseball Pitcher of the Week. He threw a historic nine-inning perfect game in an 8-0 victory over Seattle. Rembisz struck out 12 batters using just 90 pitches. This remarkable performance made him the first West Coast Conference player to achieve a perfect game. He became the 21st Division I player to accomplish this rare feat. It was the first perfect game in three years, cementing Rembisz’s place in college baseball history.

Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC)

Hitter of the Week

Alex Hartnett from Saint Martin’s University earned GNAC Baseball Player of the Week honors. The junior delivered a standout performance against the Wildcats. He slashed .471/.500/.765 with a league-leading eight hits and five RBIs. Hartnett hit his third home run of the season. He added two doubles and recorded hits in every game. This marked his first career player of the week honor. In his debut season at SMU after transferring from Lower Columbia College, he is batting .422 with 12 RBIs through 12 games.

Pitcher of the Week

Western Oregon junior Devin Bell won GNAC Pitcher of the Week. He threw a dominant three-hit, nine-inning shutout in the conference opener against Northwest Nazarene. Bell struck out 13 batters with just one walk and one hit batter. His performance matched the highest strikeout total for a WOU pitcher since 2020. Bell sealed the Friday victory by retiring the final seven batters. He dramatically struck out the side in the eighth inning.

Northwest Conference (NWC)

Hitter of the Week

Whitworth junior Caleb Gray from Spokane Valley, Washington, dominated at the plate. He hit .500 over the weekend, going 7-for-15. Gray smashed five home runs and drove in 13 runs. In one game, he delivered a grand slam and a three-run homer. His slugging percentage reached an impressive 1.643. Gray scored five runs during the series.

Pitcher of the Week

Willamette’s Steven Verespey earned Northwest Conference Baseball Student-Athlete of the Week. He pitched 8⅔ scoreless innings in a 1-0 win over Pacific. Verespey allowed four hits and four walks. He struck out eight batters total. This included an impressive streak of five consecutive strikeouts spanning the first and second innings.

Cascade Conference (CCC)

Hitter of the Week

Oregon Tech senior catcher Tyler Horner claimed Cascade Conference Player of the Week. He went 9-for-16 in a sweep over Corban University. Horner hit three home runs and a double, driving in 12 RBIs. His batting line included a .563 average and 1.188 slugging percentage. Horner scored six runs and maintained a perfect fielding percentage. He broke Oregon Tech career records for hits, RBIs, and doubles. With 34 career home runs, Horner is just four shy of the CCC/NAIA West all-time record of 38.

Pitcher of the Week

College of Idaho junior Oliver Massie earned CCC Baseball Pitcher of the Week. He threw five scoreless innings in a 10-9 win over Eastern Oregon University. Massie allowed four hits and struck out eight batters. He posted a perfect ERA and a .80 WHIP. Massie is on pace for an impressive 14.40 strikeouts per nine innings. He became the third Yotes pitcher this season to earn the conference honor.
