The West Coast Conference (WCC) has announced its baseball weekly honors, recognizing standout performances from across the conference. Gonzaga senior infielder Josh Hankins earned WCC Player of the Week after a dominant offensive showing, while Portland placed two student-athletes on the list with junior Curtis Hebert collecting Pitcher of the Week and Trey Swygart securing Freshman of the Week recognition. The WCC baseball weekly honors highlight exceptional achievements that helped their respective teams to crucial victories this past week.


Bulldogs’ Hankins Named Player of the Week

Gonzaga senior infielder Josh Hankins is this week’s Conference Player of the Week. He delivered a remarkable offensive performance. His efforts helped power the Bulldogs to a perfect 4-0 record. Hankins was nearly unstoppable at the plate. He batted an impressive .625 (10-for-16) across four games. He recorded six runs, three RBI, and three doubles. Hankins also hit his first home run of the season. The senior added two stolen bases. He compiled a stellar 1.632 OPS during the week. His standout week began last Tuesday against Washington State, going 4-for-5 with two doubles and an RBI. His hot streak continued into the weekend series against Pacific. He went 2-for-2 with a home run in Friday’s 8-1 win and followed with a 3-for-5 performance on Saturday. Hankins extended his hitting streak to eight games on Sunday. He scored twice as the Bulldogs completed the sweep of the Tigers.

Portland’s Herbert Dominance Earns Pitcher of the Week

Portland junior Curtis Hebert has been named Conference Pitcher of the Week following a masterful performance against Loyola Marymount. Hebert was untouchable on Friday, tossing eight shutout innings while allowing just one hit and one walk, striking out a career-high 11 batters in the process. Hebert’s 11 strikeouts were the most by any Conference pitcher this week and tied for the second-highest single-game total in the WCC this season. The junior became the fourth Portland pitcher to record double-digit strikeouts in a game this year. The dominant outing highlighted what has been a strong season for Hebert, who currently boasts a 3.27 ERA and a 1-0 record. Pilots Swygart Claims Freshman of the Week

Portland’s Trey Swygart has earned Conference Freshman of the Week honors after delivering clutch performances, helping earn the Pilots secure their second consecutive conference series victory. The freshman infielder batted .455 across four games last week, collecting five hits, three walks, and eight total bases. Swygart’s defining moment came against Loyola Marymount on Friday when he went 3-for-4 at the plate and delivered a dramatic walk-off home run in the 10th inning to give the Pilots the series opener. The timely blast, which marked Swygart’s second home run of the season, set the tone for Portland as they went on to claim another important WCC series win. The freshman continues to make his presence felt in the lineup as the Pilots build momentum in conference play.
