#2 Lewis-Clark
State 6, #3 Oregon Tech 1. This
was a pitching duel with a lot of good defensive plays for seven
innings. The Warriors got all the runs they needed in the bottom of
the first inning; Charlie Updegrave hit a two-run home run, his 20th

The Hustlin’ Owls had runners on second and third in the top of
the inning, but a good catch by Brandon Cabrera in center field ended
the threat. The Warriors’ Ike George was picked off in the bottom
of the third. Warrior starting pitcher Evan Canfield retaliated by
picking off Logan Macy in the top of the fourth. Later in that
inning, Ka’ala Tam was caught stealing. In the bottom of the
fourth, Cabrera was picked off by Hustlin’ Owl starter Tim
Williams. In the bottom of the sixth, Owl first baseman Matthew Ortiz
made a great play on a ground ball hit by George, and Williams
covered first for the out. Later that inning, Updegrave reached on an
error; Ortiz was injured on the play, and had to leave the game.
In
the top of the seventh, the Owls had their first threat going since
the top of the first inning, with a hit by Tam and a Texas League
single by Keanu Mizuta. However, Canfield struck out Korrey Siracusa
to end the inning, and he left the game without allowing a run.
The
Warriors scored for the first time since the first inning in the
bottom of the seventh on an
RBI double by Noah Weintraub and an RBI on ground out by Izzy
Madariaga, and the Warriors led 4-0. The Owls ended the shutout in
the top of the eighth with a solo home run by Julien Jones at the
expense of reliever Jackson Cloud. Cabrera hit a two-run home run in
the eighth to complete the scoring.
