The second day of the Cascade Collegiate Conference 2025 tournament
at Tourmaline West Stadium on the University of British Columbia
campus.
#3 seed Oregon Tech 6, #4 Bushnell 5
(Bushnell eliminated). Logan
Macy hit his first home run of the season, and it was a grand slam in
the bottom of the fifth inning for the winning run.
Bronson
Chapple nearly went the distance for the Hustlin’ Owls. He struck
out the first batter he faced in the ninth inning. However, he hit
the next one. The Beacons sent in Chase Nye to pinch hit, and he hit
a single. Chapple walked the next batter, and the Beacons had the
tying run at first base. Chapple was relieved by Riley Cronin, and he
was met by another pinch hitter, Kolby Amaral. Amaral hit a single,
and the Owls’ lead was cut to 6-4. The next batter, Jordan Wilson,
hit a sacrifice fly to make the score 6-5, but it was also the second
out of the inning. The next batter, Albert Jennings, hit a ground
ball to first base, and it was the final out.
The
Beacons got on the board in the top of the first inning. They got
runners on first and third as a result of two errors, and Jennings
hit a sacrifice fly. They missed a chance to score another run in the
top of the second. Cade Crist hit a single, and went to second
on a wild pitch. He attempted to go home on a single by Chase Nye,
and was out at the plate, ending the inning.
The Owls got on the
board in the bottom of the second. Keanu Mizuta reached second on a
bad throw to first, and was bunted over to third. He went home when
Ty Blakely reached on a fielder’s choice.
In the top of the
fifth, Nate Stevens was out on a good play by Korrey Siracusa at
second base. The Owls scored the rest of their runs in the bottom of
the fifth. Korrey Siracusa hit an RBI double, and a hit batter loaded
the bases for Macy’s grand slam. The Beacons got back in it with a
two-run home run by Will Hudler.
Chapple’s numbers
were 8 1/3 innings pitched, four earned runs on six hits, ten
strikeouts, two walks, two hit batters, 135 pitches thrown. Beacon
starter Kai Keamo got the loss. He pitched five innings, allowed five
earned runs on six hits, struck out seven. Tyler Biddinger went the
rest of the way for the Beacons, held the Owls to only one hit.
Patrick Barry was the only Owl with two hits. None of the Beacons had
more than one hit. box

#2 Lewis-Clark
State 5, #1 British Columbia 3. The Warriors led all the way,
starting with a solo home run by Jakob Marquez in the second inning.
Jack Sheward added a two-run home run in fhe third inning, followed
by a solo home run by Charlie Updegrave. The Thunderbirds got on the
board with an RBI single by Kyle Yip in the bottom of the fourth.
They got a double play to end the top of the fifth inning. In the top
of the sixth, Brandon Cabrera drew a leadoff walk, then stole second,
which put him in position to score on a double by Noah Weintraub, and
the Warriors led 6-1. Weintraub was then caught stealing.
The bottom of the
sixth ended with a double play. The Thunderbirds got close in the
bottom of the eighth with a two-RBI triple by Trent Lenihan, but he
was stranded in third. In the bottom of the ninth, both Yip and
Mitchell Middlemiss hit long balls, but they stayed in the ballpark.
Warrior starter
Jantzen Lucas got the win. He pitched seven innings, allowed one run
on five hits, struck out seven. Zachary Ediger went the rest of the
way, allowed two runs on one hit. Thunderbird starter Ryan Heppner
got the loss. He pitched six innings, allowed four earned runs on
only five hits, struck out three. Adam Khan pitched the final three
innings, allowed only one hit. Weintraub was the only Warrior with
two hits, both of them doubles. Lenihan and Yip both had two hits.

#3 Oregon Tech 4,
#5 College of Idaho 2 (College of Idaho eliminated). The
Hustlin’ Owls scored all the runs they needed in the first inning.
Patrick Barry scored on a passed ball. Keanu Mizuta hit a
sacrifice fly. Ka’ala Tam hit an RBI double, but was out at third.
The Coyotes got both of their runs in the bottom of the third. The
inning started with a hit batter and walk. James Hull hit a ground
ball to shortstop Patrick Barry, and Barry made a great play to step
on second and get the force out. A failed attempt to pick off Hull
resulted in a run scored. Ben Gaff hit a double to score Hull, and
the Coyotes trailed 3-2.
The score stayed 3-2
until the eighth inning. Logan Macy opened the top of the eighth with
a Texas League single. He was replaced by pinch runner Michael
O’Daniel, who tagged up and took second on a fly out by Mizuta. He
stole third base, then scored the insurance run on a double by Ka’ala
Tam.
Carson Glavich and
Kaden Melzer combined to limit the Coyotes to four hits. Glavich
pitched the first seven innings, allowed the two runs on three hits,
struck out six. Melzer pitched the final two innings, allowed one
hit, struck out two. Coyote starter Dawson Cummins got the loss; he
pitched seven innings, allowed three runs on nine hits, struck out
five, threw 109 pitches. Tam finished 2-for-4 with two doubles and
