The 2025 NWAC Baseball Championship is underway! Check back throughout the day for recaps of all four games taking place at David Story Field in Longview, WA on this Thursday, May 22nd.
Game 1: Tacoma 4, Spokane 2
(W2) Tacoma CC pulled off a 4-2 comeback win over (E1) Spokane in game one of the NWAC Baseball Championship. Spokane jumped ahead 2-0 in the fourth, thanks to Pedro Quero’s RBI double and a fielders choice by
Cooper Davis. Spokane pitcher,
Zach Bowman, was dealing, holding Tacoma to just three hits through eight innings. But Tacoma’s bats woke up in the ninth, flipping the game on its head. Jailon Goodfellow led off the ninth with a single. Pinch-hitter Isaiah Afework hit an opposite field double to put men at 2nd and 3rd with no one out.
Chase Cretti reached on a fielders choice driving in the Titans first run. Logan Shepherd delivered the big blow—a two-RBI single to deep center to take the lead. Amari Goodfellow capped it with a sac fly to plate Vaughn Lowe.
Max Goldberg battled through seven innings for Tacoma, and Atticus Manning slammed the door with two scoreless frames to seal the win.

Game 2: Umpqua 6, Everett 2
(S2) Umpqua delivered a commanding performance at David Story Field, defeating (N1) Everett 6-2 in game two of the NWAC Baseball Championship. Umpqua struck early, with Ryson Waalani’s two-RBI single in the first inning scoring
Carson Dunn and Tristan Schaefer. They extended their lead in the third when Noah Cox’s two-run single brought home Zane Bidwell and
Payton Smith. Bidwell added a two-RBI single in the sixth, pushing Umpqua’s lead to 6-0. Logan Robinson was stellar on the mound, pitching seven innings and allowing just one run on seven hits while striking out four. Everett’s Max Paterson went 3-for-5, but the offense struggled to capitalize.
Jake Lockwood’s sacrifice fly in the eighth and Micah Coleman’s RBI groundout in the ninth accounted for Everett’s only runs. Hunter Robinson closed out the game with two strong relief innings.

Game 3: Linn-Benton 1, Bellevue 0 (10 inn.)
In a tense pitchers’ duel, (S1) Linn-Benton defeated (N2) Bellevue 1-0 in 10 innings. Linn-Benton’s
Connor Mendez retired 16 straight batters to start, perfect through 5.1 innings, allowing one hit—a single by TJ Armstrong—over nine scoreless innings with six strikeouts. Bellevue’s Tristan Aasland pitched 9.1 innings, allowing eight hits and one unearned run in the 10th. Jake Holmes scored on a fielding error by Bellevue’s Tyson Schertenleib after Kolten Lindstrom’s grounder in the 10th to win it. Andrew Demianew went 2-for-4 with a double plus two stolen bases, and Chase Logan was 2-for-3 with a double for Linn-Benton. Bellevue’s defense committed three errors. Noah Dewey pitched a scoreless 10th and picked up the win for Linn-Benton.

Game 4: Lower Columbia 4, Columbia Basin 1
In the final game of the day at the NWAC Baseball Championship, the Lower Columbia Red Devils defeated the Columbia Basin Hawks 4-1. The Red Devils scored twice in the first inning on Brayden Oram’s RBI walk and Owen Cummins’ RBI groundout, plating Langan Naylor and
Jace Nagler. In the second, Nagler’s RBI single scored Blake Mattern, making it 3-0. They added a run in the seventh via Matthew Bailey’s RBI walk. The Hawks scored in the ninth on Ethan Taylor’s sacrifice fly, bringing in Cole Rohlmeier. Lower Columbia’s Chayse Oxborrow pitched seven scoreless innings, allowing four hits and striking out seven.
Stephen Hammergren pitched two innings, allowing one run in the ninth with the bases loaded and one out, but struck out the next two hitters to secure the win. The Red Devils had three hits, with Nagler going 2-for-5, and drew 10 walks.
