Lewis-Clark State won three of four at home vs. Corban.
L-C State won the first game 15-5, halted by the mercy rule after eight innings. They got all the runs they needed in the first inning, starting with a 3-run home run by Pu’ukani De Sa, followed by home runs by San Olsson, Dominic Signorelli, and Carter Booth. Booth added another home run in the fifth inning. L-C was also helped by three unearned runs. Dallas McGill got the win, pitched five hitless innings.
Corban won the second game 7-1. Bryce Bridge pitched a gem; seven innings, one run on four hits, six strikeouts, and, uh, seven bases on balls. Trevor Szczepanek pitched the last two innings, allowed no runs on two hits. Four of Corban’s runs were batted in by Ryan Clay, including a two-run home run. L-C State won the third game 18-14. Corban started with seven runs in the top of the first inning, led 13-3 going into the bottom of the fourth. L-C State got back in it with five runs in the bottom of the fourth, three in the fifth, and two in the sixth. Corban got one more run in the top of the seventh, and L-C State tied it at 14 in the bottom of the seventh with a home run by Jakob Marquez. Joe Canty hit a 2-RBI triple in the bottom of the eighth for the winning run. A big game for Nick Seamons; 5-for-7 with two home runs, a double, and four RBI. College of Idaho swept four games at home vs. British Columbia. This was the first time the Coyotes have swept a series against the Thunderbirds since the Thunderbirds’ very first season in 2001.
The Coyotes won the first game 7-6. The game was tied 2-2 after 6 ½ innings, but the Coyotes got five runs in the bottom of the seventh, led by a 2-RBI single by Jonah Hultberg. The Thunderbirds answered with three runs in the top of the eighth, two of them on a home run by Aaron Marsh. They made it a one-run game in the ninth when Noah Or scored on a balk, but they left the tying run on second when the game ended. The Coyotes won a back-and-forth second game 6-5. They led 5-3 going into the eighth inning, The Thunderbirds tied it in the top of the eighth with RBI singles by Jonny McGill and Brandon Hupe, but the Coyotes got the winning run in the bottom of the eighth when Tyler Lehnertz scored on a bunt by Jake Denison. Lehnertz was the courtesy runner for Kirby Robertson, who started the game as the designated hitter, hit a home run in the third inning, moved to the mound in the fifth inning, and pitched the rest of the way for the win, allowed two runs on six hits, and finished 2-for-4 at the plate. The Coyotes won the third game 12-2, halted after seven innings by the mercy rule. They scored three runs in the first inning, four runs in the third, three runs in the fourth, then coasted the rest of the way being the pitching of Nick Eliason and Jack Stewart; Eliason allowed five hits, struck out five. The Coyotes completed the sweep with a 12-9 win. They jumped out to a 7-2 lead after three innings, led 12-6 after seven. The Thunderbirds got back in it with three runs in the top of the eighth, but they went 3-up 3-down in the ninth. Ben Gaff did the most damage for the Coyotes; 4-for-5 with a double and four RBI. Oregon Tech swept Eastern Oregon in a series moved to Murr Sports Park in Walla Walla, WA due to weather.
The Hustlin’ Owls won the first game 9-5. It was close most of the way; the Owls led 5-3 going into the ninth, but scored four runs in the top of the ninth. An RBI single by Ka’ala Tam was the winning run. Two of those runs were unearned, and the Owls got a total of four unearned runs. Julien Jones finished 2-for-2 with an RBI, two stolen bases (he also was caught stealing once) and a run scored. Patrick Arman got the win. Box score
The Owls won the second game 8-2. They led 3-1 after seven innings, then pulled away with four runs in the top of the eighth inning. Again, the Mountaineers hurt their cause with three unearned runs. The Owls won the fourth game 5-3, and like the previous three games, it was close. The Mountaineers led 3-1 going into the seventh inning, but Bryce Petrilla hit a two-run home run to tie it, then Julien Jones hit a home run to win it. Bushnell won one of three vs. Division III Lewis & Clark.
The Beacons lost the first game of a double-header played at home in Eugene 2-4, and won the second game 6-3. Cayden Delozier of the Beacons opened the scoring in the first game with a two-run home run, but the Pioneers (no, not the Warriors who play in Lewiston, ID) scored all four of their runs in the sixth inning, on RBI singles by Brennen Davis, Luke Bass, and Dylan Moore, and another run on a fielding error. Ethan Sachs got the loss, despite allowing only five hits, and striking out eight. Brett Pierson got the win. Box score The Beacons led the second game 3-2 going into the ninth inning. The Pioneers tied it in the top of the ninth on an RBI double by Jakob Ghammachi, but the Beacons won it with a pinch-hit three-run home run by Jordan Wilson. Three Beacon pitchers combined to allow only four hits, and struck out eleven. Jahshua Yacapin, who pitched the sixth through eighth innings, allowed two runs on one hit, struck out six. The Beacons lost the third game, played in Portland, 8-6. This time, it was the Pioneers with the walk-off win. Dylan Carson hit a home run for the Beacons in the top of the ninth to tie it 6-6, but Jake Thomson hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth to win it.
