Oregon Tech and Corban split four games

The Hustlin’ Owls won the first game 4-3. Korrey Siracusa scored a walk-off run in the bottom of the ninth when Matthew Ortiz reached on a fielder’s choice on a ground ball. The game was scoreless until the Warriors scored all three of their runs in the top of the sixth inning. Hayden Van Acker held the Owls hitless for six innings. The Owls got on the board after he was relieved with a two-run home run by Tyler Horner in the bottom of the seventh. They tied it in the bottom of the eighth with an RBI single by pinch-hitter Matthew Lehrbach. Patrick Arman pitched eight innings for the Owls, allowed only one earned run on five hits. However, it was Ryan Poling who got the win; he pitched the ninth inning, allowed one hit. Box score

The Warriors won the second game 15-9. They scored eight runs in the top of the first before the Owls recorded the first out, and it took three Owls pitchers to get out of the inning. The Owls got six runs back in the first two innings, but that was as close as they got. The Warriors scored two runs in the top of the third, and three more in the top of the fourth to put it away. Keenan O’Brian was a big part of that first-inning avalanche with a home run and a triple. Kyle Clay and Scott Artzer both went 4-for-6; Kyle Clay had a triple and two RBI. The Warriors used five pitchers; it was Preston Johnson that closed the door and got the win; pitched three innings, retired all nine batters he faced, struck out three of them. Box score

The Warriors also won the third game, 3-2. Nate Martin pitched eight innings for the Warriors, allowed one run on seven hits, struck out four, and he kept the Owls off the board until the seventh inning. Meanwhile, the Warriors scored a run on a double play in the fourth inning, and had two runs walked in in the sixth. The winning run was scored by Scott Artzer, on a walk drawn by Joshua Miyazawa. The Owls made it interesting in the bottom of the ninth. Martin was relieved by Trevor Szczepanek, and he was greeted with singles by Ka’ala Tam and Bryce Petrilla. Szczepanek was relieved by Jaren Childs, and he was greeted with a single by Alonzo Vergara, loading the bases. Childs struck out pinch-hitter Brodie Marino. The next batter, Riley Cronin, hit a ground ball to third base, which scored Tam, but also caused a force out at third base. Childs then struck out Korrey Siracusa, ending the game. Box score

The Owls salvaged the split by winning the fourth game 12-2, halted by the mercy rule after seven innings. The Owls got all the runs they needed in the bottom of the first innings, starting with a two-RBI single by Bryce Petrilla. Dane Bradshaw hit a sacrifice fly for the winning run, and Brodie Marino followed with an RBI single. Brendan Talonen held the Warriors scoreless for six innings, allowed three hits, struck out four. Ka’ala Tam finished 2-for-3 with a two-run home run. Recap Box score

British Columbia swept four games vs. Bushnell

The Thunderbirds won the first game 4-2. They scored two runs in the bottom of the first with an RBI single by Noah Or and Mike Fitzsimmons scoring when Jonny McGill reached on a fielder’s choice. Brett Corbeth hit an RBI single in the second inning for the winning run. The Beacons scored two runs in the top of the third on a home run by Liam Kerr, and the Thunderbirds got their insurance run in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single by McGill. Sean Heppner pitched another gem; went seven innings, allowed five hits, struck out 13. Domingo Vicarte went the rest of the way, allowed one hit, got a save. Box score

The Thunderbirds won the second game 10-3. The Thunderbirds led 4-3 after four innings, but added three runs in the bottom of the fifth with a two-RBI double by Mike Fitzsimmons and an RBI single by Jonny McGill, and completed the scoring with a three-run home run by Trent Lenihan. McGill also provided the winning fun with a three-RBI double in the third inning. Starter Ryan Beitel got the win, pitched six innings, allowed seven hits, struck out nine. Kellen Bourne pitched two innings, allowed one hit, and struck out four of the seven batters he faced, allowed one hit. James Brock pitched a hitless ninth inning, struck out two. Recap Box score

The Thunderbirds won the third game 11-0, halted by the mercy rule after seven innings. The Thunderbirds scored the winning run in the bottom of the first, on an RBI double by Aaron Marsh. Marsh finished 3-for-4 with three runs scored, and Mike Fitzsimmons finished 3-for-3 with two RBI. Daniel Orfaly and Adam Khan combined for the shutout; Orfaly pitched six innings, allowed three hits, struck out five. Box score

The Thunderbirds completed the sweep with a 14-4 win, halted by the mercy rule after eight innings. Trent Lenihan had a big game; 4-for-4 with a two-run home run and four RBI. Ryan Heppner got the win, pitched four innings, allowed all four Beacon runs on five hits, struck out six. The Thunderbirds also got strong pitching performances from Daniel Sereda (three innings pitched, one hit, four strikeouts) and Brendan Logan (one inning pitched, one hit, two strikeouts). Logan struck out the side in the Thunderbirds’ exhibition game against the Vancouver Canadians last week. Recap Box score

College of Idaho and Lewis-Clark State split four games

The Coyotes won the first game 3-2 (10 innings). The Coyotes got a great pitching effort by starter Nick Eliason; eight innings pitched, two runs on three hits, 10 strikeouts. The Coyotes got two runs in the third inning on an RBI double by Jonah Hultberg and an RBI single by Skyler Sadora. That lead held up until the eighth inning, when the Warriors tied it with a sacrifice fly by Pu’ukani De Sa. Eliason turned the ball over to Colby Durski, who pitched a hitless ninth inning, struck out two of the three batters he faced. In the bottom of the tenth inning, Kris Kirkpatrick drew a leadoff walk. Hutton Stiles pinch-ran for him, went to second on a wild pitch, went to third on a balk, then scored the winning run on another wild pitch. Kirby Robertson, who pitched the top of the tenth, allowed one hit, and recorded one strikeout, got the win. The Coyotes out-hit the Warriors 10-4. Recap Box score

The Warriors won the second game 14-4, mercy-ruled after eight innings. The Coyotes took an early lead, but the Warriors went ahead for good with four runs in the top of the fourth inning. Leo Rivera hit a sacrifice fly for the winning run, and Carter Booth followed with a three-run home run. Jakob Marquez added a two-run home run in the sixth inning. Joe Ball got the win; he pitched four shutout innings, allowed four hits, struck out four. Box score

The Coyotes won the third game 9-5. This game was tied 4-4 going into sixth inning. The Coyotes put it away with five runs in the bottom of the sixth, led by a three-run home run by Skyler Sadora. Kris Kirkpatrick added an RBI single, and Jake Denison added an RBI double. Kirby Robertson got his second win of the series; he came on in relief in the third inning, pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowed two runs on six hits, struck out five. The Warriors won the fourth game 11-6, salvaging the series split. The Warriors took a 5-2 lead with three runs in the top of the fifth inning, then broke it open in the top of the sixth with a two-run home run by Jakob Marquez and a three-run home run by Carter Booth. The Coyotes got four runs back in the bottom of the eighth, led by a two-run home run by Skyler Sadora, but Alec Holmes struck out pinch-hitter Jordan Kelly to end the inning with the bases loaded.
