Cascade Collegiate Conference recap for January 26 and 27

Four CCC teams opened their season. College of Idaho started with a win.

The College of Idaho opened their 2024 season with a 7-6 (10 innings) win at Park-Gilbert. Jack Ingraham, in his first game with the Coyotes, went 4-for-5 with a home run and three RBI, but the biggest RBI was a single to score the winning run in the top of the tenth inning.
Ingraham opened the scoring with an RBI single in the second inning. The Buccaneers took a 2-1 lead in the fourth, but the Coyotes took a 4-2 lead with three runs in the top of the seventh, including Ingraham’s home run and another home run by Alex McFarland. The Buccaneers retook the lead with a run in the bottom of the seventh and two more in the eighth, but the Coyotes sent it into extra innings with an RBI double by Jordan Kelly in the top of the ninth.

Colby Durski pitched the final two innings, got the win. Nick Eliason, who was listed in the top ten Defense Independent Game Score (DIGS) pitchers, pitched the middle three innings, allowed one earned run on two hits, struck out five, and walked two. recap

Oregon Tech was swept in a four-game series at Jessup, 11-8, 7-6, 14-9, and 9-6. The Hustlin’ Owls got behind early in the first game, due to a grand slam home run by Oklahoma Baptist transfer Trey Furrey in his second-ever turn at bat for the Warriors. The Owls got back in it with three runs in the top of the seventh, but the Warriors answered with a two-run home run by Connor Culp in the bottom of the seventh. Even so, the Owls had the bases loaded with the tying run on first in the top of the ninth, but a strikeout ended it. Furrey finished 4-for-5 with two home runs, a triple, and six RBI. Owls ace Patrick Arman struggled, left the game after three innings and a lot of pitches, got the loss.
The second game was a similar story. The Owls got a two-run home run by Tyler Horner in the top of the first inning. The game was 2-2 after three innings, but the Warriors took the lead for good with three runs in the bottom of the fourth, two of them on a two-RBI single by the same Trey Furrey. The Owls made it a one-run game with two runs in the top of the sixth, and again had the tying run on first in the top of the seventh. This time, it was a strikeout by Keanu Muzuta that ended it. The Owls also had an early lead in the third game, by the Warriors took the lead for good with five runs in the fourth inning, and put it away with five more runs in the eighth. Furrey went 3-for-3 with a double this time, but only one RBI. It was Chris Lopez who did the most damage; 3-for-5 with three RBI. Starter Isaac Hill got the loss. Horner went 3-for-5 with a home run, two doubles, three RBI, and a stolen base.

The Owls led the fourth game 6-4 after four innings, with three of the runs coming from a home run by Patrick Barry. The Warriors made it a one-run game in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI double by Bryce Petrilla, who transferred from Oregon Tech to Jessup. They took the lead with back-to-back home runs by Chris Lopez and Brandon Springer in the bottom of the sixth. They proceeded to get insurance runs on a wild pitch and an RBI single by Petrilla. Ryan Poling got the loss. Horner finished 3-for-4. recap

Corban lost their first three games at Menlo 13-1, 8-5, and 7-5, but salvaged the final game 13-7. Ryan Clay got two of the Warriors’ six hits in the first game, Nainoa Ka’ahanui got two more. Bryce Bridge got the loss.

The Warriors were held to two hits in the second game by five Oaks pitchers, but they had an early 4-1 lead, owing to five walks and five wild pitches by Oaks starter Landon Rowland. The Oaks got all the runs they needed with five runs in the third inning. Hayden Van Acker got the loss. recap

The third game was close all the way. The Oaks took a 5-2 lead with three runs in bottom of the sixth, but the Warriors got a run in the top of the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Nathaniel Gutierrez, then tied it in the eighth when two runs scored when Aidan Bunn reached on an error. However, Justin Flannery hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth to win it. Sam Greenhalgh got the loss this time. Gutierrez finished 2-for-4 with two RBI.

In the fourth game, the Warriors jumped out to a 7-0 lead with seven runs in the third inning, led by a three-run home run by Brad Pellkofer, and a two-run home run by Lucas Mertlich. They put it away with five runs in the next inning. Starter Avery Williamson got the win; he went five innings, allowed three runs on two hits, struck out two, walked four, and threw three wild pitches. Noah Owens went 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Eastern Oregon‘s season opener at Simpson was halted by rain in the seventh inning, with the Mountaineers trailing 2-1.

Lewis-Clark State starts their season at the East-West Challenge in Phoenix and Mesa, AZ February 1-3. They will play a good Tennessee Wesleyan team, a rematch with #1-ranked Southeastern, Bellevue, and Saint Thomas (FL). video audio

Bushnell starts their season at Jessup February 2-3. video

Oregon Tech is off until February 9.

British Columbia starts their season February 9.

    Eastern Oregon ended up losing the suspended game at Simpson 7-4.
