First game: Northwest Nazarene 3, College of Idaho 1. This game was scoreless until the eighth inning. Both teams got excellent outings from their starters. Nick Eliason was the started for the Coyotes, went seven innings, allowed one hit, struck out eight. Jonathan Zayas started for the Nighthawks, went six innings, allowed two hits, struck out five.
The Nighthawks got all of their runs in the top of the eighth inning. The first one was scored by Cole Calnon on a wild pitch. The winning run was scored on an RBI single by Carter Walsh. The insurance run came from an RBI single by Kaleb Karpstein. All three runs were unearned.
The Coyotes ended the shutout in the bottom of the ninth, when pinch-hitter Austin Moon hit an RBI single. He was replaced by a pinch runner, and was stranded on first when the game ended. Josh Brown got the win, and Dawson Cummins got the loss. Karpstein got two of the Nighthawks’ five hits.
Second game: Northwest Nazarene 5, College of Idaho 4 (10 innings). The Coyotes trailed 3-1 going into the bottom of the eighth inning, but got a two-RBI double by Alex McFarland-Smith to tie it, then an RBI double by Kris Kirkpatrick to give them a 4-3 lead going into the ninth. The Nighthawks sent it into extra innings when Cole Calnon scored on a ground out by Kaleb Karpstein. They stranded a runner on third, then the Coyotes went three up three down in the bottom of the ninth. Manny Casillas hit a home run in the top of the tenth to win it, although with two outs in the bottom of the tenth, the Coyotes got two hits, and the gamed ended with the tying run on third.
The Nighthawks scored three runs during the first two innings, on an RBI single by Casey Wayne, an RBI single by Adam Paganelli, and Kailer Sanders scoring on a ground out by Drew Deal. It was Kyle Ethridge who held the Coyotes to one run during the first seven innings, allowed four hits, struck out five. Wade Duncan, who pitched the ninth and tenth innings and allowed two hits, got the win. Colby Durski, who pitched the eighth through tenth innings, got the loss. Casillas finished 4-for-5 with a home run and two doubles. Kirkpatrick finished 3-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI. recap
