Lewis-Clark State swept a double-header at home against British Columbia, College of Idaho and Bushnell split.
First game: Lewis-Clark State 13, British Columbia 8. The Warriors again took a first-inning lead. This time, it started with
an RBI single by Charlie Updegrave, then a three-run home run by Dominic Signorelli. The Thunderbirds answered with three runs in the top of the second; a solo home run by Jonny McGill, a sacrifice fly by Jaden Lamothe, and an RBI double by David Draayers. However, the Warriors pulled ahead for good with two runs in the bottom of the third when Signorelli scored on a wild pitch, and Leo Rivera got an RBI on a ground out. The Warriors got all the runs they needed in the fourth, with a three-run home run by Updegrave.
Jace Hanson got the win, pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowed six runs on nine hits, struck out three. Thunderbird starter Ryan Beitel got the loss, went four innings, allowed ten runs on ten hits, struck out four. Signorelli finished 3-for-3 with two home runs, a double, and four RBI. Rivera finished 3-for-5 with a home run late in the game and three RBI. Mitchell Middlemiss went 4-for-5 for the Thunderbirds, and Lamothe went 2-for-3 with a home run and five RBI.
Shane Spencer
Second game: Lewis-Clark State 13, British Columbia 7. The Warriors again took an early lead, with a solo home run by Nick Seamons in the first inning, and a two-RBI single by Magnum Hofstetter (transfer from Hawaii), an RBI single by Brandon Cabrera (transfer from Umpqua CC), and a two-RBI double by Seamons in the second inning. Cabrera hit a home run in the fourth inning, and Noah Weintraub hit an RBI single for the winning run in the fifth inning. The Thunderbirds were held hitless for five innings by Shane Spencer (transfer from Washington State), who struck out ten in his very first appearance for the Warriors. The Thunderbirds finally got on the board with a two-run home run by David Draayers in the sixth inning. He hit another home run in the seventh inning, and Kaden Zarowny hit a three-run home run to bring the Thunderbirds as close as 11-7. However, the Warriors added runs in the bottom of the seventh and eighth.
Cabrera finished 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI. Seamons finished 3-for-5 with a home run, a double, and three RBI. He nearly hit for the cycle; in the seventh inning, he hit a ball to the warning track in right field that probably would have been a triple if not for a great catch by Kyle Yip. Starter Ryan Heppner got the loss despite striking out seven in four innings of work.
First game: College of Idaho 8, Bushnell 5. The Coyotes trailed 5-4 going into the bottom of the eighth, but Darren Smith hit an RBI single to tie it, then Austin Moon hit a two-run home run to win it. Matthew Iwamizu hit a solo home run for the insurance run.
Coyote starter Nick Eliason kept them in the game. He allowed all five of the Beacons’ runs (three of them earned) on seven hits, struck out seven. Colby Durski, who recorded two outs in the eighth inning, got the win. Colby Knutzen, who pitched the eighth inning for the Beacons, got the loss. Kris Kirkpatrick finished 2-for-4 with a triple, a double, and an RBI for the Coyotes. Isaiah Hart went 2-for-2 with a home run and two RBI for the Beacons; Kyle Kasperson also hit a home run.
Jordan Wilson
Second game: Bushnell 13, College of Idaho 11. The Coyotes got all eleven of their runs during the first four innings, led by a two-RBI single by Jace Mahlke, a two-RBI single by Kris Kirkpatrick, and a three-run home run by Jordan Kelly. After that home run, the Beacons brought in Jayden Soriano to pitch. He held the Coyotes to two hits over the next four innings. He was relieved by Garrett Vohs for the final two innings, and he allowed only one hit. The Beacons got to work offensively with five runs in the top of the seventh inning, with an RBI single by Ethan Stacy, an RBI double by Wilson, a sacrifice fly by Albert Jennings, and an RBI single by Cade Crist, who then scored on an error. That made the score 11-9 Coyotes.
The Beacons got within one run in the eighth with an RBI double by Isaiah Hart, then won it with a two-run home run by Wilson. They added an insurance run in the top of the ninth with an RBI single by L Kerr.
Chase Nye finished 4-for-4 with a home run, a double, and two RBI for the Beacons. Wilson finished 2-for-5 with a home run, a double, and three RBI. Alex McFarland-Smith went 2-for-4 with a home run and three runs scored. Jackson Cummins got the loss. recap
A scheduled double-header, Oregon Tech at Eastern Oregon, was postponed until Sunday due to weather. The games will be played at Bob White Park in Pendleton, OR.
