Bushnell swept a double-header vs. Lewis-Clark State, British Columbia swept a double-header vs. College of Idaho, Oregon Tech and Corban split a double-header, and undefeated Division III Whitworth defeated Eastern Oregon.
First game: Bushnell 7, Lewis-Clark State 5. The Beacons got the early lead with an RBI on a ground out by Reece Carganilla and an RBI single by Albert Jennings in the bottom of the second inning. The Warriors took the lead temporarily with four runs in the top of the sixth, on an RBI single by Jake Gish, an RBI double by Brandon Cabrera, and a two-run home run by Pu’ukani De Sa. However, the Beacons answered with four runs in the bottom of the fourth, on an RBI double by Caleb Richter, who then scored on a throwing error, an RBI when Isaiah Hart reached on a fielder’s choice, and an RBI single by Jordan Wilson. The Warriors got one more run in the top of the eighth when De Sa scored on a passed ball. Again, the Beacons answered with an RBI triple by Wilson.
Starter Kai Keamo got the win. He pitched five innings, allowed only two hits, struck out six. Colby Knutzen pitched the final three innings, allowed zero earned runs on two hits, struck out two. Brady Maylett, who gave up two unearned runs and only one hit in the sixth inning, got the loss. Wilson finished 3-for-5 with a triple, a double, and two RBI. De Sa finished 2-for-4.
Second game: Bushnell 3, Lewis-Clark State 2. The Warriors got the early lead with two RBI by Jake Gish, a single in the first inning and a ground out in the third inning. They were held scoreless the rest of the way by Alex Gums, who pitched the fourth through sixth innings, and Austin Wolfe, who pitched the seventh through ninth innings. Gums allowed two hits, got the win. Wolfe allowed one hit, got the save. The Beacons scored all of their runs in the sixth inning. Jameson Hussey was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and Reece Carganilla hit a two-RBI single to win it. Albert Jennings went 2-for-5 for the Beacons, who didn’t have an extra-base hit. First game: British Columbia 11, College of Idaho 1. This game was halted by the mercy rule after seven innings. The Thunderbirds out-hit the Warriors 16-5. The offensive barrage started with five runs in the bottom of the first inning. Kaden Zarowny scored on a passed ball, Kyle Yip hit an RBI single, Jonny McGill hit a two-RBI single, then scored on a ground out by Aidan Rose. The biggest damage the rest of the way was a two-RBI double by David Draayers in the sixth inning. Ryan Beitel pitched six shutout innings for the Thunderbirds, allowed only three hits, struck out three. Yip finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored. McGill finished 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Coyote starter Nate Vidlak got the loss.
Second game: British Columbia 7, College of Idaho 2. Ryan Heppner and Vicarte Domingo combined to hold the Coyotes to three hits. All three hits were given up by Heppner; he pitched six innings, allowed one run, struck out four, got the win. Domingo pitched three innings, allowed the other run, struck out five. The Thunderbirds opened the scoring with an RBI single by Jaden Lamothe in the second inning. The Coyotes tied it in the top of the fifth inning when Ben Gaff got an RBI by reaching on a fielder’s choice. The Thunderbirds went ahead for good when Trent Lenihan hit an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth. The winning run came in the sixth inning on a two-RBI double by Kaden Zarowny in the sixth inning. Lamothe added a two-RBI triple in the seventh, and Mitchell Middlemiss completed the scoring with an RBI double in the eighth. Lamothe finished 2-for-2 with a triple and three RBI, and drew two walks. Jonny McGill and Lenihan both finished 2-for-4. Kyle Matsunuma finished 2-for-3. First game: Oregon Tech 10, Corban 7. The Warriors led this game most of the way, and led 6-2 going into the eighth inning. In the top of the eighth, the Hustlin’ Owls loaded the bases with one out with a bunt single by Patrick Barry, a single by Matthew Ortiz, and a walk by Kyle Norton. Tyler Horner drew a walk to start the scoring, then Julien Jones hit a two-RBI double. Then Alonzo Vergara hit a triple to score two more runs. After a strikeout, Dane Bradshaw hit an RBI single, and the Owls led 8-6. The Warriors got one back in the bottom of the ninth with an RBI on a ground out by Joshua Miyazawa, but the Owls got two insurance runs in the top of the ninth on a ground out RBI by Norton, and a home run by Horner.
Brian McClelland took the mound for the Owls in the fifth inning, pitched 3 2/3 innings, held the Warriors to one run on three hits, struck out three. Tim Williams pitched a lights-out bottom of the ninth, struck out one. Ortiz finished 4-for-5 with a double and an RBI.
The Warriors got a good start from Avery Williamson; he went six innings, allowed two runs on six hits, struck out five, but walked six. Hayden Wilson finished 1-for-2 with a double, and walked three times.
Second game: Corban 7, Oregon Tech 6. The Warriors avoided the four-game sweep by tying it 6-6 in the bottom of the eighth with an RBI single by Noah Owens, then winning it with a sacrifice fly by Hayden Wilson. The game ended when Julien Jones, who got on base by being hit by a pitch, was caught attempting to steal second with a throw by catcher Wilson.
This game was close all the way. The Warriors tied it 1-1 with a home run by Nainoa Ka’ahanui in the bottom of the second inning. The Hustlin’ Owls got two runs in the top of the fourth, and the Warriors tied it again with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. The Owls took a 4-3 lead in the top of the sixth with a sacrifice fly by Alonzo Vergara, and extended the lead to 6-3 with two runs in the top of the seventh with an RBI double by Tyler Horner and an RBI double by Vergara. The Warriors made it 6-5 with a two-RBI double by Ryan Clay in the bottom of the seventh.
Trey Williams, who entered the game in the seventh inning, got the win. He pitched 2 1/3 innings, allowed no runs on two hits. Riley Cronin, who pitched the sixth and seventh innings, gave up four runs on five hits, got the loss. Brady Majewski went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored for the Warriors. Whitworth 8, Eastern Oregon 3. Hunter Dryden of the 10-0 Division III Pirates held the Mountaineers scoreless for five innings, allowed one hit, struck out seven. The Pirates got solo home runs by Aidan Morrison in the third inning, Spencer Shipman in the fourth inning, and Jacob Doughty in the fifth inning. They broke it open in the sixth inning with a two-RBI single by Aaron Clogston and a three-RBI single by Morrison. Morrison finished 2-for-5 with four RBI. Brock Cordes got the loss. recap
