Cascade Collegiate Conference recap for April 6

Corban, British Columbia, and Lewis-Clark State all swept double-headers.

At Keizer, OR. First game: Corban 7, Eastern Oregon 6 (11 innings). Trevor Baker hit an RBI single for the Mountaineers with two out in the top of the ninth to tie the game 6-6. Chase Nett reached on an error with none out in the top of the eleventh, but was stranded on third base. In the bottom of the eleventh, the Warriors loaded the bases with a hit batter and two walks. Nathaniel Gutierrez hit a ball that dribbled down the first base line and stayed fair, scoring the winning run.

The Mountaineers led 5-0 after 3 ½ innings, with two-RBI doubles by Parker Cumberland and Nett. The Warriors came back with a two-run home run by Noah Owens in the bottom of the fourth, followed by a run on a passed ball and a sacrifice fly by Aidan Bunn in the sixth. They tied in the seventh with a sacrifice fly by Gutierrez, then took a 6-5 lead with an RBI single by Owens.

The Mountaineers got a good start by Tyler Rebsom (5 innings pitched, four runs on seven hits, six strikeouts), and a good relief effort by Danny Burns (5 innings pitched, two runs on four hits, six strikeouts). Zakaia Michaels, who was charged with the winning run, got the loss. Joe Licari, who pitched the eleventh inning, got the win. Owens finished 4-for-5 with a home run, a double, and three RBI. Baker finished 3-for-6 with a double and an RBI.

Second game: Corban 9, Eastern Oregon 8. The Warriors led 6-2 after five innings. The Mountaineers got three runs in the top of the seventh with an RBI single by Trevor Baker and a two-RBI double by Tommy Whiles. That made it 6-5, but they got runs on an error and a wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh, and got what became the winning run in the bottom of the eighth when Brady Majewski scored when Ryan Clay reached on a fielder’s choice. The Mountaineers made it a one-run game in the top of the ninth with an RBI double by Alex Olague, an RBI single by Chase Nett, and Joey Freitas being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and two out. However, Mario Landeros hit a line drive to Brad Pellkofer in center field, and Pellkofer made a spectacular catch to end the game with the bases loaded.

Starter Bryce Bridge pitched 7 2/3 innings for the Warriors, allowed five runs on nine hits, struck out seven, got the win. Starter Shane Sinclair got the loss. Clay finished 3-for-5 with a home run, a double, and an RBI. Whiles finished 2-for-2, drew two walks, had two RBI. recap

At Vancouver, BC. First game: British Columbia 8, Bushnell 1. The Thunderbirds scored six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to win this one. David Draayers and Jackson Boomer hit RBI singles, Aidan Rose hit an RBI double, Russell Young hit an RBI single, and Aaron Marsh hit a sacrifice fly. They added two more runs in the eighth with an RBI double by Jonny McGill and a sacrifice fly by Mitchell Middlemiss. Starter Sean Heppner went seven innings, allowed one run on four hits. James Brock pitched the final two innings, allowed one hit, struck out three. Beacons starter Kai Keamo got the loss. Draayers and Young both finished 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Second game: British Columbia 6, Bushnell 3. The Beacons led 3-1 after three innings, but they didn’t score again the rest of the way. The Thunderbirds scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth to win it; the runs came from an RBI single by Keegan Lott, RBI doubles by Aaron Marsh and Jonny McGill, an RBI on a ground out by Mitch Middlemiss, and a two-run home run by David Draayers.

Evan Hoegler entered the game in the fifth inning, retired all 13 batters he faced, struck out four of them, got the win. Beacons starter Nate Rasmussen got the loss. Trent Lenihan finished 2-for-3 with a run scored for the Thunderbirds. recap

At Lewiston, ID. First game: Lewis-Clark State 14, College of Idaho 1. Halted by the mercy run after seven innings. The Coyotes led this 1-0 after two innings, but the Warriors took the lead for good with an RBI double by Bulla Ephan in the bottom of the third, followed by a sacrifice fly by Dominic Signorelli. The Warriors added four runs in the fifth inning, then turned it into a blowout with eight runs in the sixth inning. Warrior starter Shane Spencer pitched six innings, allowed one run on three hits, struck out eleven. Nate Vidlak got the loss. Brandon Cabrera finished 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, and four RBI.

Second game: Lewis-Clark State 6, College of Idaho 2. The Coyotes scored both of their runs in the top of the first inning, were held scoreless the rest of the way by Decker Stedman, Tucker Grote, and Landon Webb. Grote got the win. Webb pitched the final two innings, allowed two hits, struck out three of the eight batters he faced. The Warriors got on the board with an RBI double by Magnum Hofstetter in the bottom of the second, tied it with an RBI single by Nick Seamons in the bottom of the fourth, then won it with an RBI single by Dominic Signorelli. Seamons scored on a balk to give the Warriors a 4-2 lead. They added two more insurance runs in the eighth inning with RBI singles by Seamons and Charlie Updegrave. Dawson Cummins got the loss for the Coyotes. Carter Booth finished 3-for-5 with a double and a run scored for the Warriors. recap
