Huskies Name Eddie Smith Head Baseball Coach

UW Announces Eddie Smith As New Head Coach

The Husky baseball program has a new leader at the helm, as Eddie Smith takes over as head coach at the University of Washington. A native of Olympia, Smith’s journey in baseball has come full circle, bringing him back to his home state after a successful coaching career that’s spanned across the country.

Smith’s baseball roots run deep in Washington. His playing days began at Centralia Community College, where he made such an impact as an infielder that he was later enshrined in the school’s athletic hall of fame. His talent on the diamond took him to the prestigious University of Notre Dame, where he contributed to Big East Championships and NCAA Tournament appearances during his two-year stint with the Fighting Irish.

Before making waves at Utah Valley University, where he recently turned a struggling program into a mid-major powerhouse, Smith cut his teeth as a head coach just down I-5 from UW at Lower Columbia College in Longview. There, he guided the team to a pair of Northwest Athletic Conference titles, with his 2015 squad earning national recognition. This local success, combined with his experience at top-tier programs like LSU and Virginia, makes Smith a compelling choice to steer the Huskies as they embark on their Big Ten journey. UW’s athletic director is confident that Smith’s deep understanding of Washington baseball and proven track record will usher in an exciting new chapter for the program.
