College of Idaho sweeps double-header vs. Embry-Riddle-Arizona

The Coyotes ran their early-season record to 8-2 with a sweep of Embry-Riddle-Arizona (2-5) on a snowy day and cold evening in the first two games of a scheduled four-game series in Caldwell, ID.

College of Idaho 12, Embry-Riddle-Arizona 4: The Coyotes led all the way, but were up only 6-4 after five innings. The Coyotes put it away with three runs in the bottom of the sixth. The first of these runs came on Cannon Morgan stealing home. The second one was scored by Darren Smith when interference was called. The third one was an RBI ground rule double by Austin Moon. Meanwhile, The Eagles were held scoreless over the final five innings by Jackson Cummins. He allowed only four hits, struck out five, walked three. Moon finished 2-for-5 with a home run in the first inning, a double, and three RBI. Box score

College of Idaho 17, Embry-Riddle-Arizona 14: The Coyotes trailed 6-2 going into the bottom of the fourth, when the Coyotes scored 12 runs to put it away. Four of those runs were walked in, an another scored on a wild pitch. Evan Brown hit a two-RBI single, and Jack Ingraham hit a two-RBI double.

The Eagles got six unearned runs in the top of the seventh to make the game something other than a blowout. A dropped fly ball with two outs allowed the inning to continue, with two runs scored. Three straight hits by the Eagles resulted in four more runs. Kaden Lapp was brought in to relieve Jakob Cummins, and he recorded a strikeout to get that third out. Lapp pitched the eighth inning, allowed one hit. The Eagles got two more runs in the top of the ninth at the expense of Grant Jakobson to make the final score even closer.

The Eagles out-hit the Coyotes 16-10, and only three of the Eagles’ runs were earned. Ingraham finished 3-for-4 with a double, three RBI, and two runs scored. James Warren finished 5-for-6 with a double and four RBI for the Eagles. Box score
