Cascade Collegiate Conference recap for February 22

Oregon Tech 9, Bushnell 8 at Springfield, OR. The Hustlin’ Owls outhit the Beacons 15-7, but needed a run scored by Michael O’Daniel on a throwing error in the top of the ninth to win it.

This game was tied 3-3 after six innings, but the Owls took an 8-3 lead in the top of the seventh with a two-RBI double by Keanu Mizuta and runs scored on two hit batters and a run walked in. The Beacons answered with a two-run home run by Will Hudler, then tied it 8-8 in the bottom of the eighth with a run walked in and a two-RBI pinch-hit single by Max Richards.

Noah Loew, who got the final four outs for the Owls, got the win. Tyler Biddinger got the loss. Mizuta finished 4-for-5 withe three doubles and three RBI. Patrick Barry finished 4-for-6 for the Owls. Ethan Stacey also hit a home run for the Beacons. Box score

The Beacons won the series two games to one.

Warner Pacific 13, Corban 7 at Keizer, OR. The Knights won their first-ever Cascade Collegiate Conference game by scoring seven runs in the top of the third inning, led by a sacrifice fly by Skylar Roque-Sunahara, a two-RBI single by Mason Deverna,and an RBI single by Collin Schiller. The Warriors got as close as 10-5 with four runs in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI triple by Ethan Ammerman and a three-run home run by Isaac Bateman.

Starter Connor Hale got the win for the Knights, pitched five innings, allowed six runs on six hits, struck out three. Jackson Young got the loss. Schiller finished 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI. Box score

The second game of the double-header was suspended by rain with the Warriors leading 10-4.

Lewis-Clark State 10, College of Idaho 0 at Caldwell, ID. Stopped after seven innings by the mercy rule. Evan Canfield, Jackson Cloud, and Tucker Grote combined for the shutout. Canfield got the win, went 4 2/3 innings, allowed two hits, struck out four. The Warriors didn't put it away until they scored five runs in the top of the sixth, led by a grand slam home run by Jack Sheward. Charlie Updegrave hit an RBI double in the top of the seventh to give the Warriors the ten-run margin. Updegrave's numbers were 5-for-5 with two doubles and three RBI. Box score

College of Idaho 7, Lewis-Clarks State 6: The Coyotes got an RBI single by James Hull in the bottom of the eighth to win it.

The Warriors led 6-2 after five innings. However, the Coyotes tied in 6-6 with four unearned runs in the bottom of the seventh, on an RBI single by Jack Ingraham, followed by three runs walked in.

Jacob Lewis pitched the final four innings for the Coyotes, allowed two hits, struck out four, got the win. Kolby Solomon got the loss. Ingraham finished 3-for-4. Brandon Cabrera and Charlie Updegrave hit home runs for the Warriors. Box score

British Columbia 14, Eastern Oregon 4 at Vancouver, BC. Halted after eight innings by the mercy rule. This game had a long rain delay in the second inning. Both starting pitchers were unable to continue, and James Brock got the ball from Ryan Beitel for the Thunderbirds. He pitched a gem: five innings, one run on two hits, three strikeouts. Dylan Myttenar relieved Brock in the eighth inning, struck out three of the five batters he faced.

The Thunderbirds scored six runs in the bottom of the first inning, three of them on a home run by Trent Lenihan, and cruised the rest of the way. Aaron Marsh finished 3-for-4 with two RBI. Box score
