Cascade Collegiate Conference recap for March 1

Oregon Tech swept Corban, the other three double-headers: Warner Pacific vs. Bushnell, College of Idaho vs. Eastern Oregon, and Lewis-Clark State vs. British Columbia, were split.

Warmer Pacific 6, Bushnell 5 At Portland. Decided in the bottom of the ninth with an RBI double by Giovanny Alvillar (transfer from Ottawa-Arizona).

The Knights got a great start from Connor Hale (transfer from Chemeketa CC); six innings pitched, four runs (three earned) on four hits, 11 strikeouts. The win went to Brady Windham, who pitched the final two innings, didn´t allow a hit. Tanner Won got the loss. Hale also batted for himself, hit an RBI double. Mitchell Thoma-Britt (transfer from Antelope Valley College) went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI for the Knights. Jordan Wilson and Nate Stevens hit home runs for the Beacons. Box score

Bushnell 10, Warner Pacific 8: The Knights led 7-1 after five innings, and 7-3 after seven innings. However, the Beacons jumped on reliever Brady Windham with seven runs on six hits in the top of the eighth, including an RBI single by Will Hudler, a two-RBI single by Jordan Wilson, a two-RBI single by Nate Stevens, and a two-RBI double by Max Richards.

The Beacons used 18 position players (including pinch hitters and pinch runners) and six pitchers. Jayden Soriano got the win. Richards finished 3-for-4 with three doubles and three RBI. Box score recap

The Beacons won the series three games to one.

College of Idaho 10, Eastern Oregon 9 At La Grande, OR. The Coyotes trailed 9-6 after seven innings, and 9-7 going into the ninth, but the Coyotes got a two-RBI double from Connor Olsen in the top of the ninth, and Olsen scored the winning run on a single by Jack Ingraham. Chandler Stocking went 3-for-5 with two home runs, a double, and two RBI for the Coyotes. Zaylor Bruegeman held the Mountaineers hitless for the final two innings, got the win. The Coyotes also got a good start from Oliver Massie, who went five innings, allowed zero runs on four hits, struck out eight. Mario Landeros and Danny Burns both finished 3-for-4 with a home run for the Mountaineers; Landeros also hit a double. Box score

Eastern Oregon 10, College of Idaho 5: The Mountaineers led by only 5-4 after seven innings, but they put it away by scoring five runs in the bottom of the eighth, on a home run by Greyson McDaniel (the winning run), a run scored on a passed ball, an RBI when Trevor Baker reached on a fielder’s choice, and a two-RBI single by Mason Van Arsdall. Tucker Zander got the win in relief, pitched 3 2/3 innings, allowed zero runs on four hits. Alex Olague finished 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI for the Mountaineers. Ben Gaff finished 4-for-5 with two home runs and four RBI for the Coyotes. Box score recap

The series is tied at one game each. They will play one more game tomorrow.

Lewis-Clark State 2, British Columbia 1 At Vancouver, BC. Will Anderson had a no-hitter going for the Thunderbirds into the eighth inning, struck out eight. At the same time, Jadon Williamson pitched the first five innings for the Warriors, allowed no runs on one hit. Jantzen Lucas pitched the next three innings, allowed three hits.
The game was scoreless until the eighth inning. Jack Sheward hit an RBI double in the top of the eighth off Lucas Huynh, who relieved Anderson with two outs. The Thunderbirds answered with a home run by Trent Lenihan in the bottom of the eighth off Lucas, and the game was tied 1-1 going into the ninth. Huynh recorded two outs, then walked Dominic Signorelli. The next batter, Jakob Marquez, hit an RBI single for the winning run. Kolby Solomon came in to pitch the bottom of the ninth, and it was three up three down to end an excellent ball game.
Marquez got two of the Warriors’ three hits, and Lenihan got two of the Thunderbirds’ four hits. Lenihan also got a stolen base. Box score

British Columbia 20, Lewis-Clark State 10: Halted by the mercy rule after seven innings. The Thunderbirds took a 14-4 lead after three innings, led by a grand slam home run by David Krahn. They finished it off with six runs in the bottom of the seventh, with home runs by Stephen Waters and Kaden Zarowny, an RBI double by Krahn, a two-RBI double by Jonny McGill, and an RBI double by Waters.

Krahn’s numbers were 2-for-5 with a home run, a double, and five RBI. McGill also hit a home run. Zarowny hit another home run. Abe Aftholter had a big game for the Warriors; 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, and four RBI.

Ryan Heppner started and got the win, despite giving up seven runs (six earned) on ten hits over five innings. He also struck out 11. Starter Joey Estrada got the loss, but the Thunderbirds did the most damage on Levi Anderson, who gave up seven runs in one inning of work. Box score recap

Oregon Tech 12, Corban 2 at Keizer, OR. Halted by the mercy rule after seven innings. The Hustlin’ Owls got it started with a two-run home run by Julien Jones in the top of the first inning. They put it away with a three-run home run by Dane Bradshaw in the sixth, then completed the win with a two-run home run by Tyler Horner in the seventh. Isaac Hill went the distance for the Owls, allowed two runs on five hits, struck out four. Box score

Oregon Tech 18, Corban 9: The Owls got eight runs in the second inning, five in the third, and three in the fourth. Eight of the Warriors’ nine runs came in the sixth inning. Tyler Horner went 3-for-4 with a home run, three RBI, and three runs scored. Chase Elliott hit a three-run home run for the Warriors. Alex Rodriguez got the win, pitched the final three innings, allowed no runs on one hit, struck out two. Box score
