Cascade Collegiate Conference recap for March 28

British Columbia swept a double-header at Warner Pacific, and Bushnell swept a double-header at home against Eastern Oregon.

British Columbia 12, Warner Pacific 0 at Portland. Mitchell Middlemiss went 3-for-5 with a two-run home run and four RBI. Will Anderson and Adam Khan combined for the five-hit shutout.

Anderson pitched six innings, allowed four hits, struck out seven, didn’t walk a batter. Khan allowed the remaining hit, struck out two.

David Krahn scored the winning run in the top of the first inning, by coming home when Trent Lenihan reached on an error. The Thunderbirds got two more unearned runs in the second, and added a run in the fourth on an RBI single by Middlemiss. They scored a run in the seventh, two runs in the eighth, and five runs in the ninth, capped by a two-RBI single by Aaron Marsh and the Middlemiss home run.

Marsh finished 2-for-4 with three RBI. Knight starter Ayden Yaeger got the loss. box score

British Columbia 8, Warner Pacific 4. Aaron Marsh Opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly in the top of the third inning. Trent Lenihan followed with a solo home run. The Knights answered with an RBI single by Connor Hale in the bottom of the third. The Thunderbirds got all the runs they needed with four runs on the top of the fourth, on RBI singles by David Draayers and Marsh, and a two-RBI single by Mitchell Middlemiss. Lenihan hit another home run, two runs this time in the sixth, and the Thunderbirds led 8-2. The Knights made it closer in the bottom of the ninth with a two-RBI single by Mathew Revels.

Ryan Beitel got the win; he started, pitched six innings, allowed two runs on seven hits, struck out eight, threw 97 pitches. Evan Hoegler pitched into the ninth inning, allowed the two runs on five hits, struck out two. Josiah Nickel got the loss. Marsh finished 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Revels finished 3-for-4 with two RBI. box score

Bushnell 6, Eastern Oregon 3 at Springfield, OR. The Mountaineers led 3-2 going into the bottom of the fifth inning, on a two-RBI single by Mason Van Arsdall and a sacrifice fly by Danny Burns. The Beacons then took over the game. They tied it with an RBI on a bunt by Ethan Stacy in the bottom of the fifth, then got the winning run in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single by Reece Carganilla. Chase Nye and Max Richards added RBI singles to complete the scoring.

It was Nate Rasmussen who kept the Mountaineers scoreless for the final five innings, allowed three hits, walked one, got the win. Shane Sinclair got the loss. Carganilla finished 2-for-4. Trevor Baker finished 2-for-2 for the Mountaineers, drew two walks. box score

Bushnell 10, Eastern Oregon 0. Halted by the run rule after eight innings. Braden Proud and Ethan Sachs combined for the four-hit shutout. Proud pitched the first five innings, allowed two hits, struck out two. Sachs pitched the remaining three innings, allowed two hits, struck out one. This game was actually close for 7 1/2 innings. The Beacons led 3-0 on a two-run home run in the top of the first inning by Albert Jennings (see below) and an RBI double by Chase Nye in the fifth inning. However, the bottom of the eighth started with a run walked in and a two-RBI double by Will Hudler. Then Kolby Amaral hit a grand slam home run to give the Beacons the ten-run margin (see further below).
