Cascade Collegiate Conference recap for April 5

Four double-header sweeps; College of Idaho over British Columbia, Oregon Tech over Eastern Oregon, Bushnell over Corban, and Lewis-Clark State over Warner Pacific.

Bushnell 7, Corban 4 at Keizer, OR. The Beacons scored four runs in the top of the first, with a sacrifice fly by Jordan Wilson, a two-RBI single by Will Hudler, and Cade Crist scoring on a wild pitch. They got the winning run in the top of the third with an RBI single by C.J. Smith.

Beacon starter Max Chapman got the win. He went five innings, allowed four runs on eight hits, struck out one. Ethan Sachs went the rest of the way, allowed no runs on four hits. Warrior starter Josephan Gonzalez got the loss. Chase Nye, Ethan Stacy, and Nate Stevens each had two hits for the Beacons. Joshua Miyazawa finished 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI for the Warriors. box score

Bushnell 2, Corban 0. This was a pitching duel between Kai Keamo of the Beacons and Chris Shaffer of the Warriors. Shaffer kept the Beacons scoreless for six innings. In the seventh inning, Jameson Hussey hit an RBI single, and Chase Nye hit an RBI double. Shaffer was relieved after that inning, and his numbers were one earned run on seven hits, and seven strikeouts. Keamo and Dylan Ha shared the shutout. Keamo pitched six innings, allowed four hits, struck out four. Ha pitched three innings, allowed one hit, also struck out four.

Nye was the only Beacon with two hits. Chase Elliott and Lucas Mertlich each had two hits for the Warriors. box score

Bushnell and Corban split the four-game series.

College of Idaho 9, British Columbia 8 at Vancouver, BC. The Thunderbirds led 8-4 going into the ninth inning, and reliever Adam Khan struck out the first batter he faced, but he walked the next two. Then Trevor Watkins hit an RBI double, Jack Ingraham hit an RBI single, and Darren Smith got an RBI on a ground out. Pinch-hitter Jace Mahlke hit an RBI single to tie the game. Khan was relieved by Evan Hoegler, and Cannon Morgan hit an RBI single for the winning run before Hoegler finally got the third out. The Coyotes sent in Zaylor Bruegeman to pitch the bottom of the ninth, and he got a three up three down inning.

Jakob Cummins got the win. He entered the game in the fifth inning, pitched 3 1/3 innings, allowed one run (unearned) on one hit, struck out three. Bruegeman got a save. Khan got the loss. Ingraham and Morgan each had two hits for the Coyotes. David Krahn went 2-for-5 with three RBI for the Thunderbirds; Jonny McGill went 2-for-3. box score

College of Idaho 6, British Columbia 3. The Thunderbirds took the early lead with an RBI double by Kellen Bourne in the bottom of the second inning. The Coyotes took a 3-1 lead in the top of the fifth with a solo home run by Jace Mahlke and a two-run home run by Chandler Stocking. The Thunderbirds got one back in the bottom of the fifth on a home run by Bourne, but the Coyotes got the winning run in the top of the seventh with a solo home run by Caden Casagrande. They added two insurance runs in the eighth with two hit batters with the bases loaded.

Dawson Cummings came one out short of going the distance. He allowed two earned runs on five hits, struck out five, threw 104 pitches. Ryan Beitel started for the Thunderbirds, went six innings, allowed four runs (three home runs) on five hits, struck out four, got the loss. Jack Ingraham had two hits for the Coyotes. The College of Idaho leads the series two games to one. They will play one more game on Sunday.

Oregon Tech 10, Eastern Oregon 4 at Klamath Falls, OR. The Hustlin’ Owls got three runs in the bottom of the third inning on an RBI double by Tyler Horner, an RBI single by Matthew Ortiz, and an RBI double by Logan Macy. Horner hit a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning, and Korrey Siracusa scored the winning run on a passed ball.

Tim Williams held the Mountaineers scoreless for seven innings. He allowed three hits, struck out nine, got the win. The Mountaineers got all of their runs in the top of the eighth inning, three of them on a home run by Mario Landeros. The Owls completed the scoring with a solo home run by Dane Bradshaw and a three-run home run by Julien Jones in the bottom of the eighth.

Mountaineer starter Shane Sinclair got the loss. Sircusa finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Rogelio Gonzales went 2-for-3 with a double for the Mountaineers. box score

Oregon Tech 9, Eastern Oregon 1. The Hustlin’ Owls got all the runs they needed in the bottom of the second inning with a two-RBI single by Ty Blakely. Korrey Siracusa added an RBI double in the second inning, and Dane Bradshaw added a two-RBI double in the third.

Landon Cheney started and got the win, but the Coyotes got another good relief effort from Bronson Chapple; three innings pitched, no runs on one hit, seven strikeouts. Mountaineer starter Will Seslar got the loss. Matthew Ortiz finished 2-for-5 with a double and three RBI for the Owls. Matthew Carlson finished 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI. box score recap

Lewis-Clark State 17, Warner Pacific 0. Halted by the run rule after seven innings. The Warriors broke this one open with seven runs in the fourth inning, and six more in the fifth inning. Dominic Signorelli went 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBI. Jadon Williamson and Levi Anderson combined for the shutout. Williamson pitched five innings, allowed all three of the Knights’ hits, struck out five. Anderson struck out three. box score

Lewis-Clark State 14, Warner Pacific 3 at Lewiston, ID. Halted by the run rule after seven innings. The Warriors put this away with nine runs in the first two innings. Charlie Updegrave went 5-for-5 with a home run and five RBI. Jantzen Lucas got the win, pitched five innings, allowed two runs on five hits, struck out seven. box score recap
