Hope
International 3, Oregon Tech 2. A
good effort by the Hustlin’ Owls, but they were out-hit 13-4, and
the Royals pitcher Trey Seeley was just too good. He pitched a
complete game, struck out 15,
threw 125 pitches, and the only earned run he gave up was a home run
by Julien Jones in the top of the sixth inning. He struck out the
side to finish the game in the top of the ninth.
The
Royals opened the scoring in the bottom of the first with a run
scored when Matthew Pinal reached on a fielder’s choice. The Owls
tied it in the top of the third with an RBI on a ground out by
Patrick Barry, but the Royals took the lead again in the bottom of
the third on an RBI single by Colby Moran. The Owls tied it 2-2 with
Jones’ home run. They got a break in the bottom of the sixth. With
two out, Amari Bartee hit what should have been an RBI single with
Trotter Boston on second. However, confusion between the Royals’
third base coach and Boston, combined with a good throw from Ka’ala
Tam in left field, resulted in the inning ending with Boston out at
the plate. The Royals got the winning run in the bottom of the
seventh with an RBI double by Kyle Harvey. The Owls got Jones on base
in the top of the eighth, but a double play ended the inning.
Bronson
Chapple started for the Owls, pitched 6 1/3 innings, scattered eleven
hits, allowed two earned runs, struck out five, threw 118 pitches,
got the loss. Riley Cronin kept the Royals scoreless the rest of the
way. Bartee finished 3-for-4 with a double. Harvey, Boston, and
Branden Chun-Ming each had two hits for the Royals. Jones had two of
the Owls’ four hits. box
