PNW College Baseball Morning Report: Jan 31

Pacific Northwest teams delivered a strong Saturday slate with road sweeps and competitive doubleheaders. Bushnell, College of Idaho, Montana State Billings, and Warner Pacific each swept. British Columbia, Saint Martin’s, and Northwest Nazarene split, while Central Washington opened with two losses. Let’s dive into what happened yesterday.

UBC trailed 1-0 early but pulled away for a 12-3 win. They erupted for four runs in the fifth. Mitchell Vanslyke had an RBI double. Kyle Yip added an RBI single. Calvin Warrillow scored on a hit-by-pitch RBI. Owen Clements drove in two with a single. The Thunderbirds tacked on four more in the seventh. Wild pitches and hit-by-pitches helped. Josh Cote delivered a sac fly RBI. David Krahn went 3-5 with 3 runs scored. He added an RBI double in the ninth. Vanslyke contributed 2 hits, a double, 2 RBIs, and 2 steals. British Columbia at Arizona Christian

Arizona Christian claimed a 3-1 pitchers’ duel, scoring once in the fourth on a groundout RBI and adding two in the sixth on RBI singles. David Krahn provided UBC’s only run with an RBI double in the ninth. James Brock struck out nine over six innings but took the loss.

Central Washington at Stanislaus State – Game 1

Stanislaus State shut out CWU 5-0, jumping ahead with four runs in the first on Andrew Kelley’s three-run homer. The Wildcats mustered only three hits for the game. Camdyn Martindale pitched six innings and struck out four in the tough opener.

Central Washington at Stanislaus State – Game 2

Stanislaus State rallied for a 6-3 win after CWU took a brief 3-2 lead in the top of the sixth on Andrew Charron’s RBI double scoring Ethan Swenson. The Warriors responded with four runs in the bottom half: Zach Lewis doubled in a run and advanced to third on an error, AJ Carter doubled in Lewis, and Kian Sanchez sealed it with a two-run homer. CWU had tied it earlier at 2-2 in the fifth on Ethan Buckley’s RBI single scoring Kellen Berg.

College of Idaho at Park Gilbert – Game 1

The Yotes built an 8-2 win with three runs in the fifth on RBI singles from Kris Kirkpatrick, Darren Smith, and Evan Brown. COI added two more in the eighth on Jace Mahlke’s RBI single and James Hull’s RBI groundout. Jace Mahlke went 3-4 with an RBI and run scored. Caden Campa earned the relief win over three scoreless innings.

College of Idaho at Park Gilbert – Game 2

College of Idaho overcame a 4-0 deficit for an 11-6 win. The Yotes exploded for five runs in the seventh on Jack Ryan’s three-run homer following Evan Brown’s two-RBI single. Evan Brown went 3-5 with 4 RBIs and 2 runs. Calvin Euper got the relief win, and Luca Quilici earned the save.

MSU Billings at CSU San Bernardino – Game 1

The ‘Jackets overcame an early 3-0 deficit for a 10-8 win, tying it in the second on Landon Carter’s two-run homer before exploding for seven runs in the third with Ryan Bell’s two-run homer, Cade Queen’s solo homer, and Landon Carter’s two-RBI single. Landon Carter went 2-4 with a homer and 4 RBIs. Brennen Chappell earned the win over five innings with five strikeouts.

MSU Billings at CSU San Bernardino – Game 2

MSUB built a 7-6 win with a four-run fourth on Cade Queen’s two-run homer and Nate McDonald’s RBI double, then added insurance in the fifth on Kaden Bertram’s two-run homer. Kaden Bertram went 1-3 with a homer and 3 RBIs. Cody Snow earned the relief win, and Hayden Mullins notched the save.

The Saints secured a 10-6 win, building an early 3-0 lead in the second on Bransyn Hong’s 2-RBI triple (scoring Ian Hoag and Kyle Schabot) and Carson Dunn’s RBI single, then extending to 4-1 in the sixth on Zach Staszkow’s RBI single. Vanguard closed to 4-2 on a homer but SMU pulled away with four in the eighth on Dunn’s 2-RBI triple and an error/wild pitch, adding two more in the ninth on wild pitches despite Vanguard’s four-run bottom eighth. Carson Dunn went 3-6 with a triple, 3 RBIs, a run, and a stolen base. Blaze Wong earned the win over 5.1 innings.

Saint Martin’s at Vanguard – Game 2

Vanguard dominated 8-1, scoring once in the third and erupting for five in the fifth on Omar Perez’s grand slam after two RBI singles. Peter Hollabaugh went 2-3 with a double for the Saints’ limited offense. Hunter Normand took the loss over 4.1 innings allowing six earned runs.

Simpson at Bushnell – Game 1

The Beacons cruised to a 13-4 win, scoring six in the fourth on Nate Stevens’ two-run homer and multiple RBI hits, then adding five in the eighth on Chase Nye’s three-run homer. Chase Nye went 4-5 with a homer, 5 RBIs, a run, and a stolen base. Nate Stevens went 2-4 with a homer and 2 RBIs. DJ Kauahi earned the win over four scoreless innings.

Simpson at Bushnell – Game 2

Bushnell completed the sweep 11-4, scoring four in the fourth on Nate Stevens’ two-run homer and adding three in the eighth on Chase Nye’s two-run homer. Nate Stevens went 2-4 with a homer and 2 RBIs. Chase Nye went 1-3 with a homer and 3 RBIs. Dylan Ha earned the relief win over three innings allowing no earned runs.

Warner Pacific at Corban – Game 1

The Knights won 8-1, scoring five in the second on Colin Schiller’s drag bunt that scored two with a wild throw by Corban, plus Conner Hale’s two-RBI single. Hale finished with 3 RBIs. WPU added runs in the fourth, fifth, and then in the seventh on Mitchell Thoma-Britt’s solo homer. Ayden Yaeger threw a complete game over nine innings allowing one earned run.

Warner Pacific at Corban – Game 2

Warner Pacific rallied for an 8-7 win, scoring five runs in the fourth on multiple RBI singles including Conner Hale’s two-RBI hit, then held off a late Corban surge. Alex Zisa went 3-5 with a double, RBI, 2 runs, and a stolen base for WPU. Corban fought back with Chase Elliott’s 2-for-4, 3 R, 4 RBI including a key three-RBI triple in the late innings. Jaxon Hamada earned the win over 4.1 innings allowing four earned runs.
