PNW Summer Collegiate Recap – July 5

A high-scoring day across the Pacific Northwest on July 5 saw teams combine for 118 runs in ten games between the West Coast League and Pacific International League. Standout performances included Rees Kozar’s five-RBI night for Kelowna, Ryan Spero’s five-hit outburst in a 25-4 Studs romp, Luke Parker’s five-RBI game for DubSea, and Gage Reeser’s perfect 5-for-5 effort for Walla Walla. Multiple blowouts, late rallies, and strong pitching highlighted another busy Saturday in PNW summer collegiate baseball.

West Coast League

Kelowna 9, Victoria 2

Rees Kozar went 2-for-3 with a three-run homer, 5 RBI, 2 runs, and 2 walks to lead the Kelowna Falcons past Victoria. Xander Sielken added two hits and an RBI while Cade Burnham had two hits, two runs, and a steal. Max Biddle earned the win with 5 innings of 4-hit, shutout ball and 3 strikeouts. Victoria received a solo homer from Marcus Nolen and two hits plus three steals from Matthew Westley.

Nanaimo 6, Bellingham 2

Ethan Reynolds drove in three runs with a double to pace the Nanaimo NightOwls in a 6-2 win over Bellingham. Cole Young added two hits, an RBI, two runs, and a steal while Beau Musser had two hits and two steals. Tre Minisee earned the win with 3 scoreless innings. Bellingham scored two ninth-inning runs but recorded only seven hits.

Yakima Valley 6, Bend 4

Luis Garcia went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI, 2 runs, a walk, and a steal to lead the Yakima Valley Pippins to a 6-4 win over Bend. Jay O’Neill added an RBI. Luke McGuire earned the win with 8 innings (10 H, 3 ER, 3 K) and John Witt recorded the save. Troy Sanders hit two solo homers for Bend in the loss.

Port Angeles 9, Kamloops 2

Carter Enoch went 2-for-4 with 3 RBI to help the Port Angeles Lefties defeat Kamloops 9-2. Tommy Markey added two doubles and two runs. James Kelsey earned the win with 5 innings of one-hit, shutout ball and 4 strikeouts. Kade Crawford hit a solo homer and stole two bases for Kamloops.

Corvallis 9, Springfield 6

Carter Stewart drove in two runs as Corvallis used a five-run fifth inning to secure a 9-6 win over Springfield. Matthew Kosderka earned the win in relief and Kellen Segel recorded the save. Aiden Gebhard hit a three-RBI double and Malosi Mata’afa-Alferos went 3-for-4 with two RBI in the loss for Springfield.

Marion 8, Portland 6

Tyler Dunning went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer and 3 RBI total to lead the Marion Berries to an 8-6 win over Portland. Kael Barney added two RBI. Damian Catano earned the win in relief. Brady McKay went 3-for-3 with an RBI and two walks while Masa Chilcutt drove in two for Portland.

Walla Walla 13, Ridgefield 9

Gage Reeser went 5-for-5 with two doubles, 2 RBI, and 4 runs to lead the Walla Walla Sweets in a 13-9 win over Ridgefield. Nate Petz added three RBI. Alex Cohen earned the win in relief. Braden Watson went 2-for-4 with a double and 3 RBI for Ridgefield.

Edmonton 12, Wenatchee 2

Gianluca Montanaro went 4-for-6 with two homers and 4 RBI to lead the Edmonton Riverhawks to a 12-2 win over Wenatchee. Chris Parkin added a homer and two RBI. Trey Nance earned the win with 6 shutout innings and 5 strikeouts.

Pacific International League

Seattle Cheney Studs 25, Sawtooth Sockeyes 4

Ryan Spero went 5-for-6 to lead the Seattle Cheney Studs to a 25-4 blowout over the Sawtooth Sockeyes. Jackson Copeland went 3-for-6 with three doubles and five RBI while Gage Thompson had two doubles. Vayden Lawrence earned the win with two scoreless innings and Maxwell Schweyen pitched three innings in relief. Sawtooth recorded only eight hits.

DubSea Fish Sticks 16, Washington A’s Premier 18U 7

Luke Parker went 3-for-5 with a homer, double, and five RBI to power the DubSea Fish Sticks to a 16-7 win over Washington A’s Premier 18U. Noah Benedict added a double and a solo homer. Wesley Harwell earned the win with three innings and Beckett Turnbow added scoreless relief. Tyler Long and Sebastian Unay each had three hits for Washington.
