Oregon Tech swept a double-header played in Pendleton, OR, and completed the sweep of the four game series.
First game: Oregon Tech 17, Eastern Oregon 16. It took three hours, 50 minutes to play this. The Mountaineers let it get away. They had a 14-5 lead after six innings. The 14 runs included 2-run home runs by Chase Nett and Mario Landeros, and solo home runs by Landeros and Trevor Baker. However, the Hustlin’ Owls got back in it with seven runs in the bottom of the seventh, including a two-RBI double by Julien Jones. Neither team scored in the eighth inning, and the Mountaineers scored what should have been two insurance runs in the top of the ninth, with a run walked in and a sacrifice fly by Baker. That increased their lead to 16-12. The Owls responded with a two-RBI single by Jones, who then scored on a fielding error. Two bases on balls and a double steal put runners on second a third with two out, and the Mountaineers leading 16-15. Patrick Barry hit a a single to score two runs and end it.
Jones and Matthew Ortiz each had four RBI. Landeros’ numbers were 3-for-5 with two home runs and five RBI.
Brian McClelland, who took the mound in the fifth inning and remained there until two outs in the top of the ninth, got the win. He allowed the two runs in the ninth on six hits, struck out four. Jake Herrera, who faced final four batters, got the loss.
Second game: Oregon Tech 11, Eastern Oregon 4. The Owls scored seven runs in the second inning, starting with an RBI double by Dane Bradshaw, an RBI on a bunt single by Patrick Barry, a run scored on a throwing error during a double steal, an RBI double by Korrey Siracusa, and a two-run home run by Matthew Ortiz. Tyler Horner hit a home run in the fourth inning, and Ortiz hit a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning. The Mountaineers got four runs in the late going, led by a two-RBI double by Joey Freitas, and they left the bases loaded in the seventh and final inning. Cody Dubray and Riley Cronin combined to hold the Mountaineers to seven hits; Dubray started, pitched five innings, allowed two runs on four hits, struck out seven. The Mountaineers used five pitchers; Tucker Zander got the loss. recap
