PNW Summer Collegiate Recap – July 11

Riley Kawk dropped five RBI, Kai Mault went deep and tripled, and Kaden Harris threw five shutout innings — just a few of the standout performances that lit up the West Coast League on Saturday night. In the PIL, Dylon Veley went the distance for the Honkers and Bradley Carl crushed a grand slam for the Studs.

West Coast League

Marion 12, Edmonton 4

The Berries jumped all over five Riverhawks errors and rolled to a 12-4 win. Matthew Major went 2-for-6 with two triples and three RBI, Kael Barney added a triple and an RBI, and Grayson Bonnano earned the win with five solid innings. Cale Clark was the bright spot for Edmonton, going 3-for-4 with an RBI.

Portland 12, Ridgefield 7

The Pickles saved their best for the eighth, exploding for seven runs in a 12-7 victory. Kai Mault was unstoppable at 4-for-5 with a triple, homer, two RBI, and three runs. Masa Chilcutt chipped in four hits and two stolen bases, while Rafael Espinoza worked five strong innings for the win. Carson Luna provided the only real noise for the Raptors with a solo shot.

Springfield 11, Corvallis 0

The Drifters put on a clinic, blanking the Knights 11-0. Kaden Harris was filthy — five shutout innings with just four hits and three strikeouts. Hunter Meyer drove in three with a double, Kahaku Harrison launched a two-run homer, and Nolan Miller added two more RBI.

Victoria 13, Kamloops 3

The HarbourCats put up a crooked number in a 13-3 blowout. Riley Kawk went 4-for-5 with a double, homer, five RBI, and four runs. Logan Shepard added a homer and three RBI of his own, and Shea Lake got the win with three sharp innings. Victoria also walked 12 times and stole six bags.

Nanaimo 10, Bend 1

The NightOwls made it look easy in a 10-1 seven-inning win. Ethan Reynolds went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI, Beau Musser added a homer and two runs, and both Joshua Rego and Tyler Clementz delivered scoreless relief. Bend could only muster three hits.

Walla Walla 6, Yakima Valley 5

The Sweets walked it off in the 10th, taking down the Pippins 6-5. Sam Kane hit a big solo homer, Kyler Bittner drove in two, and Isaac Hallam slammed the door with 2.1 scoreless innings and four strikeouts. Daichi Furuhata and Parker Burt kept the Pippins alive with two hits each.

Kelowna 5, Wenatchee 2

The Falcons grinded out a 5-2 win behind some timely hitting and good pitching. Josh Cunnigan went 2-for-5 with three RBI, Max Biddle threw six strong innings, and Aiden Ennis picked up the win in relief. Zach Doyle led the AppleSox with two hits and an RBI.

Bellingham 8, Port Angeles 2

The Bells pulled away for an 8-2 victory. Aspen Alexander went 2-for-5 with a double, two RBI, and two runs, and David Wiser was excellent out of the pen. Nathan Huie was the lone bright spot for the Lefties, going 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles.

Pacific International League

Seattle Cheney Studs 11, Seattle Blackfins 9

The Studs held on for an 11-9 shootout win over the Seattle Blackfins. Bradley Carl delivered a grand slam and finished with four RBI, while Ryan Spero went 3-for-5 and Donte Grant added two RBI. Freddy Frias-Moreno earned the win with six innings of three-run ball. Patrick Klinkenberg led the Blackfins with two hits, and Cooper Barrow and Camden Raymond each drove in two runs. Tyler Bonin took the loss after allowing six runs in six innings.

Northwest Honkers 6, DubSea Fish Sticks 4

The Honkers earned a 6-4 victory over the DubSea Fish Sticks behind a complete-game from Dylon Veley. Veley struck out eight while allowing just two earned runs. Kasushi Miwa and Bryce Moser each had two hits, and Logan Pontecorvo, Josh Parks, and Luke Altom drove in key runs. Isaac Watson hit a solo homer and had two RBI for the Fish Sticks, while Noah Benedict added two hits in the losing effort.
