Cascade Collegiate Conference update for February 17

British Columbia 13, Providence Christian 3. The Thunderbirds started the game with a two-run home run by Aaron Marsh, and another two-run home run by Mitchell Middlemiss. Jonny McGill added yet another two-run home run in the fourth inning, giving the Thunderbirds a 7-1 lead. The Thunderbirds put it away with three unearned runs in the sixth inning; David Draayers and Middlemiss scored when Hilo Yamamoto reached on an error, then Kenny Scott hit an RBI single.

First-year student Dylan Myttenar made his first start for the Thunderbirds, pitched 3 2/3 innings, allowed two runs on six hits, struck out one, got the win. Kellen Bourne pitched 1 1/3 innings, gave up the other Sea Beggar run. Then Will Anderson, James Brock, and Lucas Webber-Kitching each pitched perfect innings, and Brock and Webber-Kitching struck out two of the three batters they faced. Webber-Kitching is a first-year student from Calgary, and this was his first appearance for the Thunderbirds. Middlemiss had a big day; 4-for-4 with the home run and two RBI. Isaiah Ayala got the loss for the Sea Beggars.
The Thunderbirds finished the California road trip with a 6-3 record, and got four quality wins.

First game: Oregon Tech 11, Antelope Valley 7. The Hustlin’ Owls led this one all the way. Alonzo Vergara hit an RBI single in the first inning, and Matthew Ortiz hit an RBI single in the second inning. They scored four runs in the fourth inning on a two-RBI single by Korrey Siracusa, an RBI double by Ortiz, and and RBI single by Tyler Horner, and they led 6-1 at that point. They put it away with three runs in the fifth inning; Ortiz hit an RBI single, then Landon Cheney and Patrick Barry scored when Horner reached on an error. The Pioneers scored three runs in the final two innings to make the final score closer than the game actually was.

Starter Isaac Hill got the win. He went five innings, allowed three earned runs on six hits, struck out four. Tim Williams pitched the next two innings, allowed zero runs on one hit, struck out one. Ortiz finished 5-for-6 with a double and four RBI. Starter Josiah Nickel got the loss for the Pioneers.

Second game: Oregon Tech 6, Antelope Valley 4. The Owls led all the way, but didn’t get the winning run until the final inning of a seven-inning game. They got a great start from Cody Dubray; he pitched four innings, allowed two runs on one hit, struck out six. The first of those runs was scored in the fourth inning, when Dubray hit a batter with the bases loaded. The second one came on an RBI single by Ryder Lundahl. However, Dubray got a fly out to get out the inning with the bases loaded.

The Owls got on the board with sacrifice flies by Korrey Siracusa and Matthew Ortiz in the top of the third inning. They added two more in the fourth when Kyle Norton got and RBI on a ground out, and Ortiz drew a bases-loaded walk. The Owls led 4-2 after four innings. It stayed that way until the top of the seventh, when Julien Jones hit a solo home run for the winning run, and Ka’ala Tam stole second base, then went home on a error. The Pioneers answered with a two-run home run by Noah Blythe with one out in the bottom of the seventh. They got a single with two outs, but the game ended with a fly out.
Dubray and Riley Cronin combined to hold the Pioneers to four hits. The Owls also had only four hits; Ty Blakely got two of them, one of them a triple. His courtesy runner, Dane Bradshaw, scored two runs. Dubray got the win, and Tate Daring got the loss.

The Owls won the series at Antelope Valley three games to one.

First game: Pacific Lutheran 5, Bushnell 3. The Beacons led 3-0 after six innings, on a two-RBI double by Albert Jennings, and an RBI single by Reece Carganilla. However, the Lutes got to starter Ethan Sachs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Asa Reese and Peter King hit singles, then Reese scored on a single by King to end the shutout. Sachs was relieved by Trevor Hammond, and he was greeted with RBI singles by Brayden Adcox and Rutger Youch. The next batter reached on a fielder’s choice, then Ashton Barton and Rochne Beecham hit RBI singles to complete the scoring. Wyatt Norris, who faced only two batters, struck out one of them, got the win, but it was Jake Prewett, who pitched two hitless innings, and Kamryn Swartz, who pitched a perfect ninth inning, that did the heavy lifting for the Lutes. Aaron Barber and Reese had two hits. The Lutes didn’t have a single extra-bases hit. Kyle Casperson finished 3-for-4 with a double for the Beacons. Hammond got the loss.

Second game: Bushnell 17, Pacific Lutheran 7. The Lutes got an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but the Beacons got on the board with a home run by Isaiah Hart in the top of the second. They went ahead for good with three runs in the top of the fourth, with a home run by Jordan Wilson, an RBI double by Brandon Reed, and a sacrifice fly by Kai Keamo. They added a run in the fifth with a sacrifice fly by Albert Jennings, and led 5-2. They scored five runs in the sixth inning, and an RBI double by Ethan Stacy scored the winning run. They added another run in the seventh, and turned it into a blowout with six runs in the eighth. Starter Max Chapman got the win; he went six innings, allowed two runs on three hits, struck out four. Two games that Corban had scheduled at Division III Pacific U. were postponed until Sunday due to weather.
